"We're excited about it. I thought we may be in Starkville (Miss.) or Ruston (La.), or somewhere around this area, but we are really excited," USA head coach Mark Calvi said. "It is a brand new ballpark at Florida, probably one of the best stadiums in the country and a great opponent in Miami – we're excited. This has been a special team that gives everything they've got, and I couldn't be happier for them. It didn't matter where they sent us, I'm just excited for these guys. We get to practice a little more and get after it, and try to win a regional.
"This group really likes each other, and what makes them special is because of Covid we didn't have any midweek games the last month of the season and these guys came out and intrasquaded every Tuesday and went at it like we were playing LSU or Mississippi State. They stayed sharp down the stretch, and some guys who may have pitched during midweeks pitched in intrasquads and they got after it. Iron sharpens iron and all they had was each other to get better, and they kept pushing each other. That's one of the things that made these guys special. They really like each other and there is a really good vibe. They pull for each other. We have had our ups and downs like everyone else, but this team is really tough. It took a lot of toughness to get where we're at, and we're good, but you add the tough factor in there and that makes us a dangerous team."
The winner of the Gainesville Regional will face the winner of the Austin (Texas) Regional in the NCAA Super Regionals either June 11-13 or June 12-14. The College World Series is scheduled for June 19-29, or June 30 if necessary, in Omaha, Neb.Â
