4/1/2021 1:00:00 PM

NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama track and field programs claimed both Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards, as announced Thursday by the league office.

Senior Carolien Millenaar was recognized as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Redshirt Freshman Francois Prinsloo won the Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades after their performances at the Texas Relays last weekend.

Millenaar ran an exceptional career-best time of 10:26.13 in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Texas Relays for a first-place finish. Her time is the fastest in school history, and the win was her first career victory in the 3000m Steeplechase since joining the Jaguar program in 2017.

Prinsloo claimed the top spot in the discus throw after recording a striking 55.71m mark at the same meet. The Worcester, South Africa native has now earned three titles in the discus throw this season.

Millenaar and Prinsloo were two of three student-athletes in program history to bring home a win at the Texas Relays.

The Jaguars will compete at the Southern Miss Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Marshall Bell Track in Hattiesburg, Miss.
