A week after playing one of USA's oldest opponents in Alabama, the Jaguars will face the Lady Cougars of Columbus State for the first time on Saturday afternoon.
CSU enters Saturday's match with a 5-1-1 record as the Peach Belt Conference are in full swing with the fall 2020 schedule moved to the Spring due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Columbus State has played a pair of exhibitions against division I teams in Alabama, dropping a match to the Crimson Tide by a score of 2-0. The Lady Cougars dropped a six-nil result to the Blazers of UAB.
After playing in Mobile against the Jaguars, CSU has the possibility of two Peach Belt Conference games being played after a pair of matches were postponed earlier. As the schedule stands, the Lady Cougars have a pair of matches left prior to their post-season PBC tournament with trips to Starkville, Miss., to play Mississippi State and Chapel Hill, N.C., to play UNC.
NOTES
- Fans will be able to park in the G lot, which is located on the East side of the Stadium. (When looking at the Stadium from the G lot, the press box will be on the far side of the Stadium. The Athletic Administration Building will be to the right of the stadium.)
- Gate 1, the closest to the G lot, will be open and fans will be allowed to sit on the East side (near side) of the stadium only.
- Concessions will be closed (the same as it is at The Cage) and fans are encouraged to bring in bottled water.
- The clear bag policy WILL NOT be in effect for this game.
- Saturday's contest will be the first time the Jaguar soccer program will use Hancock Whitney Stadium as its home field. The game was moved due to the anticipated field quality of The Cage with multiple weather systems of rain moving through the area expected to make the natural grass surface unsuitable for play when the game is scheduled.
- This will be the first time the venue has been used outside of housing football games or practices.
- Last road game, head coach Richard Moodie recorded his 50th win as head coach of South Alabama with a 1-0 win over West Florida (3/6).
- In the all-time South Alabama coaches' standings, Moodie is the third coach to reach 50 wins. Moodie's predecessor Graham Winkworth notched 66 wins at the helm during his four years, and Mike Varga registered 121 wins, the most in program history.
- As a women's soccer head coach, the Stenhousemuir, Scotland, native has picked up a total of 98 wins between USA and his alma mater, Carson-Newman.
- As a head coach, that is win number 158, with 60 wins coming from CN men's soccer.
- Columbus State Head Coach Jay Entlich picked up his 299th win last time out with a 3-1 win over UNC Pembroke on March 11.
- Saturday's match will affect neither the visiting team's nor the coaches as an exhibition.
- The 2020 Jaguars have surpassed last season's assists total (41) in four fewer games. The total stands at 47 after 19 matches.
- To this point in the season, this team has scored the second most amount of goals (43) during Coach Moodie's tenure (50; 2019).
- Brenna McPartlan notched her 28th point against Alabama Sunday after assisting on the second goal.
- The single point bumped the junior up to 11th all-time in South Alabama career points, and up to 15th all-time in career assists at USA.
- It also bumped the Lancashire, England, native to 15th for single-season points as a Jaguar.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Richard Moodie
-
On the preparation: "The thing for us now is still pushing on to the national tournament. This week, we've taken a look at the footage as a team and areas we need to improve with areas we thought we did well. We just need to keep going and figure this thing out. So for us, the big thing is to stop giving away the goals that we have been, albeit there were a couple good strikes from Alabama on the weekend. I feel there is stuff we could have done differently to limit those chances."
-
On the replicating the second-half start last match: "That is one of the hardest things about college coaching. People don't see that in practice week in and week out. They work hard through the week and the level never drops. There has never been a week where we entered a game thinking it's been a bad week of training. There's so many variables to everything this season, and I am proud of my team; week in and week out, we've been eligible to play through COVID. We just have to keep working hard."
-
On if the different surface will affect the team: "No. You're only as good as your last game and it doesn't matter where we play or who we play. The mentality for us has to be we have to do better regardless of the opposition. Columbus State is going to come in and play well whether it's in the grass or on turf. We need to be more concerned about our performance."
