MOBILE, Ala. – Two second-half goals from the visiting Tigers caused the University of South Alabama women's soccer team to fall to Louisiana State, 2-1, Sunday night at The Cage.
USA (11-4-1, 8-2-0) got its first goal from newcomer junior-transfer Laurence Saviana with Brenna McPartlan and Kailey Littleford providing the ball to each register an assist.
LSU's (3-7-3, 0-6-2) Tinaya Alexander scored a second-half brace after finishing a Tiger offensive build-up during the 53rd minute and converted a penalty in the 69th. Savannah Mills and Wasila Diwura-Soale each recorded an assist on the first away goal.
GAME FACTS
- Offense was at a premium early as Danielle Fuentes recorded a shot on goal in the second minute, but neither team was able to make inroads for the first seven minutes aside from the mentioned chance.
- As the teams grew into the contest, LSU put two shots on goal three minutes apart, but Jag goalkeeper Allison Luckhardt responded with a pair of saves at 7:57 and 10:42.
- Both defenses locked in until the Jaguars earned a corner kick in the 25th minute. Tilly Wilkes looped the corner in, where both teams struggled to control the loose ball. After a few moments, McPartlan put the ball toward net but missed wide to the left.
- More Jaguar pressure earned the Jags a pair of corners. The Tigers had defended the Jags well and earned a goal kick but South produced a turnover off of pressing the visitors. After a delayed build, McPartlan sent a pass that Littleford received and had caught the retreating Tiger defense flat-footed. As the defender corrected, a channel opened for Littleford to feed the ball to Saviana. One-on-one with the sprinting Tiger goalkeeper Mollee Swift, Saviana side-footed a shot toward net, that Swift missed between her legs as she made herself big in an attempt to close scoring angles. (1-0)
- LSU responded by controlling the ball for most of the rest of the first half, and by notching four shots on goal and three corner kicks in the final six minutes of the first half, but all efforts were stopped by Luckhardt.
- Seven minutes and 41 seconds into the second half, the Tigers found an equalizer (1-1). Alexander finished off an offensive attack after receiving a cross from Mills that was played into the clear by Diwura-Soale.
- With both sides defending against potentially surrendering a lead, three shots were taken over the following 14 minutes, with South's Kailey Littleford popping two high, with the first one requiring a save by Swift.
- In the 69th minute, Alexander was cutting left to right across the Jaguar goal box, trying to beat Flury and open up a shot on net. Alexander went down as the ball popped free, and a penalty was given. Alexander shot left, Luckhardt went left, and the Tigers went into the lead, 2-1.
- USA went fully offensive, but with the lead, LSU packed the defense back and gave South no clean opportunities for the final 20 minutes of the game.
NOTES
- South trails LSU in the all-time series 7-5 after the 12th meeting today.

- McPartlan, the leader in goals scored and points tallied for USA, added another assist to her total (7).
- Littleford's assist was her fourth and her 10th point in her freshman campaign.
- The 12 players that partook was the smallest amount of Jaguars to play in a single game this season.
THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Richard Moodie
On the result: "I thought we were very good. There were a lot of good things that came out of the game tonight, we've looked at plenty of good moments, but there are clearly have to confront, but let's give credit where it's due: LSU have gone on the road and played Auburn then came here and put in a good performance. They worked hard and earned the win. Sian Hudson has done a good job there, but we want to compete with these teams and we want to beat them, so that's the ultimate goal. Our performance was commendable with lots of players working hard."
On Allison Luckhardt: "In the first half when we were 1-nil up, she made a couple really good saves in the end. She had not played in any games, then stepped in during a penalty shootout and won it for us. Here we are in games now against the bigger teams that she is proving that she can do well. She has an amazing future, trains well throughout the week and is a hard worker."
On the goal scored: "It came from a press, that's something we worked on in practice and that is where you get the satisfaction. Things that you go in and work on. They have a goal kick, we press and win it back then score it. Laurence [Saviana] did tremendously well. She is still adjusting to the game and life in America, so I think the best is still to come."
