RADEMEYER NAMED SBC MEN’S NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR; 14 EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

NEW ORLEANS, La. – University of South Alabama track and field freshman Kyle Rademeyer was voted the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Men's Indoor Field Newcomer of the Year, as announced Friday afternoon by the league office. Fourteen Jaguars were recognized as all Sun Belt performers after their performances at the 2021 Sun Belt Indoor Championships.

Rademeyer (pole vault), Graham Collins (60m-heptathlon), Joey Zayszyly (60m hurdles-heptathlon and 1000m), Ariel Atias (shot put), Carolien Millenaar (5000m) and Hanna-Mai Vaikla (shot put) earned First-Team All-Sun Belt honors after winning their respective events. Angeline Smit (shot put) claimed second-team accolades, while seven individuals claimed third-team honors: Dorian Curry (high jump), Sebastian Loschner (shot put), Ina Edstrom (pole vault) and the women's distance medley relay team consisting of Abbey Weitenbeck, Rachel Hunter, Shay Lee and Silje Lindstad.

Rademeyer won his first career Sun Belt title by winning the pole vault with a 5.36m distance. After competing at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama on Feb. 7 , the Paarl, South Africa, native posted a 5.53m mark to earn a victory in the pole vault. Rademeyer's 5.53m effort tops USA's all-time performance list and ranks first in the conference.

Graham Collins set a new Sun Belt 60m record in the heptathlon crossing the line in 7.02s. He also set a new program record and accumulated 10 of the men's 84 points in his victory in the heptathlon (5,444 points). He won the 60m portion of the event (7.02s) and earned top-three finishes in the 60m hurdles (second, 8.30s), 1000m (second, 2:51.67) and pole vault (third, 4.51m).

Joey Zayszly's first-place effort in the 60m hurdles of the heptathlon is best in the Sun Belt this season, and his mark ranks 10th in program history. He also won the 1000m with a time of 2:50.61, ending the day with 5,072 points.

Ariel Atias earned his first Sun Belt Championship victory in the shot put with a 14.35m distance. His shot put effort was the best in the league this season.

Carolien Millenaar improved on her second-place finish from last year's league championship by winning the Sun Belt title in the 5000m (16:51.66) and earning a second-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:49.22, collecting 18 of the team's 64 points.

Hanna-Mai Vaikla collected 3,685 points in the pentathlon to earn a third-place finish after winning the shot put (12.52m) and placing third in the long jump (5.65m), adding six points to the women's team score.

Angeline Smit claimed second in the shot put with a 14.74m distance. The mark was good enough for a second-place finish and fourth all-time in program history.

Dorian Curry finished third in the high jump (2.08m), with his mark tying the best performance in Jaguar history.

Sebastian Loschner took third place in the shot put with a 15.62m distance.

Ina Edstrom's height in the pole vault (3.81m) took third place and is the fourth-best in Jaguar history.

The women's DMR team of Abbey Weitenbeck, Rachel Hunter, Shay Lee and Silje Lindstad added six points with a third-place time of 12:02.08.

The Jaguars will open their outdoor season Fri., March 5, at Jaguar Track. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. with the women's hammer, with running scheduled for 5 p.m. beginning with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
