USA MEN FINISH FOURTH AND WOMEN TAKE FIFTH AT SUN BELT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's track and field team finished in fourth place while the women took fifth at the conclusion of the 2021 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships. In total, the Jaguars saw three school records fall, three individuals become league champions and had 12 student-athletes collect all-league honors at this year's event.

NOTES
- Graham Collins set a new program record with his victory in the heptathlon with 5,444 points. Collins earned top-three finishes in four of the seven events in the heptathlon: 60m (first, 7.02s) 60m hurdles (second, 8.30s), 1000m (second, 2:51.67) and pole vault (third, 4.51m).
- One day after winning the 5000m Carolien Millenaar posted a second-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:49.22.
- Angeline Smit's 14.74m effort in the shot put, which moved her into fourth place on South's all-time list, was good for a second-place finish, while Lucy Raynor posted a mark of 13.94m in the same event to come in sixth place as well as move into eighth on the program's all-time performance list.
- In the pentathlon, Hanna-Mai Vaikla recorded a third-place finish with 3,685 points, earning top-three finishes in two of the five events after claiming first place in the shot put (12.52m) and third in the long jump (5.65m).
- Silje Lindstad recorded a third-place finish in the mile after crossing the line in 5:01.80.
- Ina Edstrom's height in the pole vault (3.81m) took third place and is the fourth-best in Jaguar history.
- Sebastian Loschner took third place in the shot put with a 15.62m distance.
- Dorian Curry finished third in the high jump (2.08m), with his mark tying the best performance in Jaguar history.
- Cierra Hedrick's 7.59s effort in the 60m currently ties for the top performance on South's all-time performance list, as she finished fourth in the finals after earning the final spot in the race in Monday qualifications.
- Joey Zayszly's first-place effort in the 60m hurdles of the heptathlon is best in the Sun Belt this season, and his mark ranks 10th in program history. He also won the 1000m with a time of 2:50.61 en route to a fifth-place finish overall with 5,072 points.
- On day two of the league championships, the Jaguars had 13 student-athletes set new personal records: Edstrom (pole vault), Taviana Williams (triple jump), Smit (shot put), Raynor (shot put), Hedrick (60m), Rocio Chaparro (pentathlon and high jump-pentathlon), Vaikla (pentathlon-high jump), Brylan Shirley (heptathlon, 1000m-heptathlon and high jump), Curry (high jump), Zayszly (heptathlon, pole vault-heptathlon), Collins (heptathlon), Ariel Atias (shot put and 60m hurdles-heptathlon) and Dimitrios Manesiotis (shot put).

- South Alabama will begin the outdoor season on Friday, March 5 with the Jaguar Opener.

- On the final day of the SBC Indoor Championships: "We had our highlights and some unfortunate luck in a few events. However, the effort was good, and we can build on that for outdoor."

- On Collins's win: "Graham had a solid meet. He has battled through a lot of adversity, so it was great to have him back competing the way he is capable of."
