JAGUAR TRACK & FIELD POSTS A STRONG FINISH ON DAY ONE AT THE SUN BELT INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After completing day one of the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the University of South Alabama men stand third while the women are currently in fourth. During the first day's events, the Jaguars had five champions, and 11 individuals overall earn all-league honors including the women's distance medley relay team.

NOTES
- Ariel Atias earned his first Sun Belt Championship victory in the shot put with a 14.35m distance. His shot put effort was the best in the league this season.
- Kyle Rademeyer claimed first place in the pole vault with a 5.36m distance.
- Carolien Millenaar won the 5000m with a time of 16:51.66, while Silje Lindstad placed third in the mile with a time of 5:05.88.
- Francois Prinsloo's fourth-place finish in the weight throw (18.02m) ranked sixth in program history.
- Brylan Shirley (1.96m) and Atias (1.93m) took fourth and fifth place in the high jump, respectively. Shirley's mark is the fourth-best in program history, while Atias's height in the event ties for 10th place in on South's all-time performance list.
- The women's DMR team of Abbey Weitenbeck, Rachel Hunter, Shay Lee and Silje Lindstad capped off the first day of competition by taking third place with a 12:02.08 time.
- The men's DMR team of Charlie Slaughter, Cam Stewart, Collins Williams and Onesmus Kemboi placed fourth with a 10:23.73 mark.
- Graham Collins's 7.02 time in the 60m heptathlon was the best in the Sun Belt this season, and his 2.02m mark in the high jump is the sixth-best in Jaguar history.
- Hunter Appling recorded an 8.25s performance in the 60m hurdles, advancing him to finals.
- Xavier Rogers's 21.82s time in the 200m marks is the fourth-fastest in program history. He advanced to finals in the 200m and the 400m with the top seed time of 48.18s, with his time in the latter event ranking sixth on USA's all-time list
- Stewart's personal best in the 400m (48.68s) qualified for finals, with Jalen Boyd (49.54s) also advancing to finals in the event.
- Charlie Slaughter (4:21.77) and Onesmus Kemboi (4:19.25) advanced to finals in the mile.
- David Dolan and Noah Mumme each recorded a 5.06m height in the pole vault, with Dolan moving into seventh place in program history.
- Josh Norris posted a 6.92m mark in the long jump, moving into the seventh spot in the program history.
- Cierra Hedrick advanced to finals with a 7.59 time in the 60m, with the mark tying the best performance in the program history.
- Kiara Risher's fifth-place effort in the high jump moves her to fifth on the all-time performance list.
- Josie Pry now ranks eighth on the school's all-time performance list after crossing the line in 8.89s in the 60m hurdles.
- 18 Jaguars set new personal bests: Prinsloo (weight throw), Dimitrios Manesiotis (weight throw), Joey Zayszly (60m-heptathlon, shot put and high jump), Collins (60m-heptathlon and high jump), Atias (shot put), Shirley (high jump), Appling (60m hurdles), Rogers (60m hurdles), Stewart (400m), Kemboi (mile), Josh Norris (long jump), Dolan (pole vault), Taviana Williams (long jump), Risher (high jump), Hedrick (60m-prelims), Pry (60m hurdles), Rachel Hunter (400m) and Susanna Pudner (5000m).
