SCOUTING THE JAGUARS    
– South Alabama (0-0) enters the season returning most of its lineup from the 2020 season, while also adding six newcomers to the roster.
– Among the list of returners is junior outfielder Amanda Flynn, who led the Jaguars at the plate with a .343 batting average. Flynn also had 24 hits, which included two doubles, a triple and a home run. The 24 hits
– Kassidy Wilcox and Kamdyn Kvistad were right behind her batting .316 and .300, respectively.
– Wilcox started 11 of her 13 games played with all 13 of those outings coming behind the plate. Her .316 batting average was second-best on the team, while she also scored six runs and drove in seven..
– Kvistad led the club in RBI with 18 and seven of her 24 hits went for extra bases.
– Katelyn Gruich (.268) ended the 2020 campaign tied for the team lead with Kvistad in doubles (4) and her four home runs ranked among the conference leaders.
– Both Gruich and Kvistad enter the spring tied for sixth all-time at South in career home runs as they each have 18.
– South also welcomes back Victoria Ortiz, who missed last spring with an injury. As a true freshman during the 2019 season, Ortiz was named the Sun Belt's Freshman of the Year and earned first-team all-conference honors becoming just the fourth freshman in program history to do so.
– Ortiz batted .357 – second-best on the club – during the 2019 season and tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead in doubles (17), which also co-set a program single-season mark and established a new freshman record at South Alabama.
- Her .628 slugging percentage was second-best in the Sun Belt and set a new single-season mark at South.
– Along with sophomore Jenna Hardy, who allowed two or fewer earned runs in 11 of her 15 outings and ranked second in the Sun Belt in innings pitched and was 10th in strikeouts looking (12) during her first collegiate season, South also welcomes another talented player to the circle this season in freshman Olivia Lackie.
– Lackie – a four-time first-team all-state from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association – ranked 56th in Extra Innings Extra Elite 100 rankings, and No. 30 nationally at her position heading into her senior season.
– She was 21-2 with a 0.55 earned run average in the circle and struck out 288 batters as a junior, a year after leading the nation in strikeouts (301) on MaxPreps.com.
– Fellow freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Hughes was selected to the AL.com ALL-STATE TERRIFIC 20, at the conclusion of her senior season after she posted  a 7-0 record with a 1.00 ERA during the shortened season.

THE SERIES VS. GEORGIA    
– South Alabama and Georgia have met two previous times in the all-time series with the two clubs splitting those meetings.
– The Bulldogs took the first series meeting defeating the Jags 4-1 in Athens at the Georgia Softball Classic during the 2010 season.
– South picked up a 3-2 win over UGA in a match up of top 20 programs during the 2014 season at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla.
– Amanda Minahan's two-out liner in the bottom of the seventh and UGA's Paige Wilson's throwing attempt to first went straight into the dirt, allowing Jaguar pinch-runner Gwen Jones to round home and secure the one-run victory.

SOUTH VS. THE SEC    
– South Alabama holds an all-time record of 12-43 (.218) against current Southeastern Conference members.
– The two games this weekend against the Bulldogs will mark the 56th and 57th in program history versus a SEC opponent.
– Coming into Friday's contest versus the Georgia, South has dropped it's last 11 meetings against an SEC opponent, nine of which have come on the road.
– South's last road win against an SEC opponent came back on April 26, 2016, a 2-1 victory at Mississippi State.
– The meeting against UGA will be the first of six scheduled for the Jaguars against the league this spring as South will face both Missouri (Feb. 26) and LSU (March 24) in Mobile, while also traveling to Alabama (March 7) and Ole Miss (March 10).
– Of the 10 teams South has faced from the SEC, Alabama, Florida and Missouri are the lone teams from the league that the Jags have yet to pick up a win against as they hold at least one victory over the other seven schools that they have faced.
– South has yet to face SEC members Arkansas or Texas A&M.
– The 15 meetings against Alabama are the most against any SEC member, while USA has also faced LSU 13 times and MSU 9.
– South Alabama has faced at least one SEC team in each of its previous 14 seasons of play since the program began in 2007.

THE SERIES VS. VIRGINIA    
– The meeting between South Alabama and Virginia the first in the series between the two programs.

SOUTH VS. THE ACC    
– South Alabama holds an all-time record of 11-13 (.458) against current Atlantic Coast Conference members.
– Coming into Saturday's contest versus the Georgia, South has dropped four straight to the league.
– The Jags last defeated an opponent from the ACC back on Feb. 21, 2018 when they picked up a 3-1 victory over No. 7 Florida State in Mobile.
– Last season, South fell to the Fighting Irish 3-1 in Clearwater, Fla., at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic.
– The 11 meetings versus FSU are the most against any ACC member, while USA has also faced Syracuse (4), Georgia Tech (3), Virginia Tech (3), Boston College (1), Louisville (1) and Notre Dame (1).
– Along with the Cavaliers, South Alabama has never faced North Carolina, North Carolina State or Pittsburgh.

SOUTH IN SEASON OPENERS     
– South Alabama holds a 7-7 mark all-time in its 14 season openers.
– Last season, USA fell, 5-2 to Texas State during the first game of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
– The meeting versus Georgia marks the second straight season that the Jaguars have opened the season outside the state of Alabama and the first time in Georgia.
– The Jags have opened on the road at on an opponent's home field just two other times, and are 1-1 in those contests.
– USA defeated Mississippi State, 3-2 in Starkville to start the 2013 season, while falling at Southern Miss, 1-0 in the program's first-ever game in 2007.
– South has faced an opponent versus the SEC in its season opener on four occasions (1-3) and last did so against No. 10/11 Alabama in Mobile, Ala., where the Crimson Tide defeated the Jags, 1-0.
– Friday's game against Georgia will also mark the third time that the Jaguars have began a season against a ranked foe.
– USA is 1-2 against ranked opponents to start a season.
– Of the 14 previous season openers, six have been decided by two runs or less, including five one-run decisions.
– The Jaguars have scored a total of 65 runs (4.64 per game), while allowing 36 (2.57 per game) runs to the opposition for a +29 run differential.
– USA has recorded three shutouts in its season openers, while being shutout three times.
– South Alabama's last season-opening victory came to start the 2017 season, a 9-3 victory over Central Arkansas on Feb. 9.
