MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball signee Olivia Lackie has been named to the PGF (Premier Girls Fastpitch) Watch List, while Abby Allen, who also signed with the Jaguars during the fall ended her prep career holding her program's career home run list.
Lackie, a 6-foot-2 pitcher from Holden High School in Holden, La., was selected to the watch list for the Southwest Region, and with the selection is eligible to be named as an All-American. The PGF All-American selections, as well as the participants in the East vs. West teams will be announced on June 1. She is also a nominee for the Louisiana Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, which is expected to be announced later next month.
Coming into the 2020 spring, Lackie ranked 56th in Extra Innings Extra Elite 100 rankings, and No. 30 nationally at her position. While with the Rockets, Lackie has earned first-team all-state honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association each of her first four varsity seasons with the program. She has also been named the Class B LHSAA state tournament Most Valuable Player three times.
As a junior, Lackie posted a 21-2 record with a 0.55 earned run average in the circle, while striking out 288 batters, and batting .452 at the plate.
Allen, who made the move to third this spring after playing the last three seasons at the catcher position for Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, La., ended her prep career holding the program's home run record with 56.
The 5-foot-7 incoming freshman was having an outstanding senior season before it was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through 16 games, Allen was well on her way of reaching her goal of 20 home runs as she had blasted 13 through the first 16 games of the season, while also helping the Lady Lions get off to a 14-2 start. In addition to her 2020 home run numbers, Allen was batting .596 with a 1.538 slugging percentage, in addition to 38 RBI and 17 walks.
Allen was selected as the LSWA's Miss Softball in 2018, the title of Class 5A MVP, as well as being a three-time first-team all-state performer by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) and a two-time first-team all-state selection by the coaches.
