Opening Tip
• This is the final game of the regular season for the Jaguars.
• USA enters play with losses in its last three contests, the team's longest streak of the year.
• The last time the Jags finished on the road they defeated Georgia State in Atlanta on March 3, 2018.
• South is looking for its first victory over the Trojans in Little Rock since picking up a 67-58 overtime win on Feb. 5, 2005.
• After claiming the first meeting this season in Mobile on Feb. 22, Little Rock has now won 11 straight contests in the series.
Jones Gets Hot In Jonesboro
After scoring 16 points combined in the Jaguars' previous two contests, G Savannah Jones led all players with 21 Thursday night at Arkansas State; the redshirt junior also tied a career high with two steals, and fell just shy of matching her best totals of the season for three-pointers and assists after posting five and four, respectively. It was the first time Jones has paced South in scoring since recording 19 points at Appalachian State on Feb. 13 as well as her first outing with 20-plus points since putting up 26 in a Feb. 6 victory over Louisiana.
Telemaque Tears Up Red Wolves
Damaya Telemaque scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half last time out and was one point away from equaling her season-best scoring total, which she set in South's first game against the Red Wolves on Feb. 20. The sophomore was 8-of-16 from the floor to tie a career high for field goals first set in a win at Alabama on Dec. 5, 2018, while her three three-pointers were one shy of matching the most she has hit this year. Telemaque shared team-high honors with four assists as well; after leading USA in the category on four occasions the first three months of the season, she has now accomplished the feat in five of the last eight outings.
Road Warrior
Junior Antoinette Lewis turned in her first double-double — and the 30th of her career — since the Jaguars visited Coastal Carolina on Feb. 15 at A-State after finishing the contest with 16 points and a team-best 10 rebounds. It was the 14th time this season that she has posted a double-double, a figure that leads the Sun Belt Conference, with the last four of those coming in road games. The point total was the center's highest since finishing with 18 in a Feb. 8 victory at ULM.
Sha's Streaking
Shaforia Kines extended her stretch with 10-plus points to nine straight contests — the longest active streak on the team — after recording 10 at A-State on Thursday. The senior guard has made more than one three in all but the first contest during that span after connecting on a pair of shots from beyond the arc, while her seven rebounds were the most Kines has collected since posting a career-best 15 at Louisiana on Jan. 9.
Chart Climbers
Both Jones and Kines moved up on the Jaguars' all-time scoring list with their performances against the Red Wolves, with the former now ranking 11th after passing Dina Jones (1992-95) and the latter climbing past both Shakira Nettles (2007-10) and former teammate Chyna Ellis (2015-18) to stand 13th entering the regular-season finale. With 17 more points, Jones will become the first individual to enter the top 10 in the category since Taneisha Russell did so during the 2002-03 campaign.
Additional Notes From The Arkansas State Game
• Making the first start of her career, Jaylen Mallard recorded her highest rebounding total since posting 10 in a win over Louisiana on Feb. 6.
• It was the first time USA has lost when scoring 80 or more points since dropping an 84-82 overtime decision at Lamar on Jan. 11, 1996; the last occasion that happened in regulation prior to Thursday came when New Orleans defeated the Jags 93-89 on Feb. 9, 1995.
• The 32 points A-State scored over the final 10 minutes were the most South has allowed in the fourth period since the NCAA instituted the quarter system prior to the start of the 2015-16 campaign.
• The Red Wolves outscored the Jaguars 42-30 in the paint and held a 23-6 edge in fast-break points.
• The Jags have now made 10 or more three-pointers in five of their last six games, and they have connected on more shots from beyond the arc than the opposition in eight straight outings.
Notes From The Last Little Rock Meeting
• Kennedi Centers became the first Jaguar since Nov. 25, 2005, to lead the team in all five statistical categories.
• Kines scored in double figures for the seventh game in a row.
• It was the first time Jala Buster had multiple steals in a contest since USA played Alabama on Nov. 21.
• The Trojans' field-goal percentage was the highest allowed by South this year.
• It was also the fewest shots from the field for the Jags this season.
