MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team defeated Siena 8-2 Sunday to close the South Alabama Invitational at Stanky Field.

South Alabama (4-5) plated seven runs in the first two frames en route to its second straight win over Siena (0-8). USA will return to action Tue., Feb. 25, when it hosts New Orleans at 6:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.

 GAME FACTS
- USA jumped out to a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Santi Montiel and Ethan Wilson reached on consecutive singles to start the inning, and both scored when Michael Sandle reached on a throwing error by Donovan Montgomery on a grounder to shortstop for a 2-0 lead. Bennett Shell reached on a bunt single up the third base line, then stole second, which also allowed Sandle to score on the play for a 3-0 Jaguar advantage. Hunter Stokes then delivered a two-out RBI single to left field to plate Shell for a 4-0 lead.
- Montiel led off the bottom of the second with a double off the left field wall, advanced to third with one out following a balk and scored on a passed ball for a 5-0 lead. A one-out, two-run double by Sandle later in the inning extended the USA lead to 7-0.
- Wilson led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield single, advanced to third on a two-base throwing error by Siena right-hander Jayden Metz and scored on a wild pitch for an 8-0 Jaguar advantage.
- Siena added its first run of the game in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to left field by Bryce Mordecki, and scored the game's final run on bases-loaded walk by Davis Zerr in the top of the ninth.

NOTES
- Brandon Auerbach pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth, and recorded his first hit of the 2020 season.

- Hunter Stokes extended his on-base streak to five games.

QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi

- On Andy Arguelles:
"Andy (Arguelles) was really good today. Siena gets off the bus swinging; they are very aggressive, so we knew his changeup had to be on. Andy was really good. He had a pretty good fastball early, and really settled in with his changeup in innings two through five. He mixed some breaking balls in there late, and slowed them down and sped them up enough with his fastball to make his changeup really good. Some guys came out of the bullpen and were really good for us as well after Arguelles. I like what I saw out of some of these guys today."
- On capping the weekend with a pair of wins:
"To me, it doesn't matter how you start any weekend, it's all about the game you're playing. The first two days didn't feel good, and were arguably two games that we could have won. But we didn't, and it was all about playing Siena yesterday and today. That's what we had to focus on, and our guys came out and took care of business. I'm a little disappointed, I felt as though we took our foot off the gas pedal from the third (inning) on, and that's something I addressed."
