GAME FACTS
- South Alabama took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Santi Montiel led off the inning with a walk, moved to third when Ethan Wilson reached on an error by UNO first baseman Hudson LaBorde on a grounder back to the mound. Wilson stole second, and Montiel scored on the play when UNO catcher Jackson Murphy's throw sailed wide of second for a 1-0 Jag lead. Reid Powers followed with an RBI single to right-center field to plate Wilson and double the USA lead at 2-0. A walk by Michael Sandle and one-out walk by Alden Davis loaded the bases. But UNO left-hander Kyle Khachadourian struck out Ross Indlecoffer for the second out of the frame, and induced an inning-ending groundout to second off the bat of Kaleb DeLaTorre to preserve a two-run Privateer deficit.
- Davis and Indlecoffer reached on consecutive singles to start the bottom of the fourth inning, and advanced one base each on a double steal with no outs. DeLaTorre followed with a two-run single to right field for a 4-0 Jaguar advantage.Â
- Ethan Wilson doubled to center field to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning, advanced to third with one out on a flyout to right field by Powers and scored on a one-out RBI single to right-center field by Sandle with the game's final run.Â
NOTES
- Powers extended his hit streak to five games with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.

- Sandle extended his hit streak to five games with an RBI single to right-center field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- Boswell's complete game was the first by a Jaguar since Patrick McBride tossed a seven-inning complete game April 23 last year at Alabama State. It was the first nine-inning complete game by a Jag since Jared Proctor on May 25, 2018, against Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.Â
- Sandle went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead the Jags at the plate.
QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On Matt Boswell:
"That's why we signed him. He is ultra-competitive with what he has; he has three pitches – an outstanding changeup that he moves around, and he's not afraid. And that's why he is going to do really well for us. The kid is a winner. He had gotten eight of nine leadoff outs; he was so efficient with his pitches. Reid Powers was outstanding behind the plate. In Coach (Brad) Phillips' absence – his father is very ill so we are keeping Coach Phillips and his family in our thoughts and prayers, especially his dad. They did Coach Phillips proud tonight."
- On the offense:
"We put together some good at-bats, took some pitches and got a bunt or two down. A couple of guys who aren't having quite the start, hit some bloop balls and turned some singles into doubles. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves, they are going hard – guys like Ethan Wilson. That's what we have to be. When you have some struggles, you keep going hard and it comes back to you. I'm really proud of our effort. I'm proud of the whole team, they keep grinding. We've had some adversity and struggles early, and either makes you stronger or weaker and I think our guys have gotten stronger."
RHP Matt Boswell
- On his effort:
"I threw my fastball early to the first part of the lineup, and didn't show a lot of offspeed until we had to. I was able to pitch to contact the first and second innings, and the third time around I was still pounding fastballs but was able to start throwing changeups where it was basically their first time seeing through the lineup. I kind of settled in after the third inning; I didn't expect to go nine innings, but I don't think you ever do. We came out of the gate punching, and if we do that against any team we play then I feel like we can compete against the best their is. You don't throw nine innings without solid defense, and the defense made some great plays tonight."
