Opening Tip
• The Jaguars and Trojans meet for the first time since Little Rock earned a one-point victory in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game.
• A win in this contest would give the Jags 10 home victories for the third year in a row for the first time since recording double-digit win totals from 2011-13.
• LR has won 10 straight match-ups in the series, with South's last victory coming in a 61-56 decision in Mobile on Feb. 1, 2014.
• The Trojans have held USA below 50 points on eight occasions during their current win streak in the series.
• The Jags averaged 47.3 points in last season's three meetings.
Telemaque Hits Twenty-Point Mark
Damaya Telemaque led all scorers in Thursday's victory over Arkansas State with 20 points, which not only was a season-best scoring total for the sophomore guard but the first time since posting 21 points in a Nov. 17 win at Central Arkansas last season that she has recorded 20 or more points in a game. Telemaque tied a career high with four three-point field goals — she didn't miss from long range in the contest — after making just four treys in the previous 10 outings combined. She has also led USA in assists in four of the last five contests, dishing out five or more on each of those occasions after being credited with five against the Red Wolves, and she pulled down five rebounds as well for the second time in the last four games.
Climb Continues
Redshirt junior Savannah Jones moved into 15th place on South's all-time scoring list after posting 16 points in Thursday's victory, passing Kathy Bailey (1981-84) as she has now 1,240 in her career. The guard has recorded a double-digit total against every Sun Belt opponent the Jags have faced this season with the exception of ULM — the Warhawks limited her to nine points in two meetings — as Jones has scored 10-plus points in 13 of South's last 15 outings.
Kines Fine Behind The Line
G Shaforia Kines went 3-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc in the defeat of the Red Wolves, marking the fourth straight contest that she has connected on multiple field goals from long distance; she is shooting 42.9 percent (12-of-28) during that stretch. The senior added six rebounds after posting five in the Jags' three previous games combined, while her four assists were the most she has been credited with since finishing with six in a Jan. 18 victory at Georgia Southern.
Lewis Leads Jaguars On The Glass
Antoinette Lewis paced all players with 10 rebounds in the A-State contest, the fourth outing in a row that she has recorded double digits in the category as she went over 800 in her career with the effort. The senior also was credited with a game-high four blocks — her highest total since posting four against Coastal Carolina on Jan. 4 — as it was the 10th occasion she has paced USA in the category this season.
Centers Scoring More
Senior F Kennedi Centers tied her previous career high in scoring with 12 points last time out, the fourth contest this season she has reached double figures — that's the same number of times she accomplished the feat in 79 appearances her first three years with the program. Centers was also credited with a season-best four assists, her seven rebounds matched the number she grabbed in last week's two road games while with three blocks she entered the Sun Belt rankings for the first time this season as she now stands seventh with 0.95 rejections per outing.
Additional Notes From The Arkansas State Game
• South finished the contest with 12 three-point field goals, marking the first time since Jan. 6-18, 2018, they have connected on 10 or more shots from beyond the arc in three straight outings.
• USA has now won all three contests this season when it has shot 50 percent or better from the floor; the last time the Jaguars accomplished the feat at home in Sun Belt play prior to defeating A-State came when they connected on 55.7 percent from the field in an 83-60 victory over Louisiana on Jan. 24 a year ago.
• It was the first time going back to a Feb. 6 defeat of the Ragin' Cajuns that the Jags have outrebounded the opposition by a double-digit margin.
Notes From The Last Little Rock Meeting
• The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes.
• It was the second straight game at the Sun Belt Tournament — and third time in five outings during the event — that Lewis led South in scoring.
• Jones paced the squad in rebounding for the first time since recording a career-best 12 at Troy on Feb. 23.
• It was the fourth game in the tournament that Centers grabbed five or more boards.
