QUOTES
Head Coach Mark Calvi
- On clinching the series:
"I am happy with winning two out of three and clinching the series. It's always a tough thing to sweep a doubleheader or any team, especially a good team like Campbell. The second game was the exact opposite of the first game (of the series). Both teams made a lot of mistakes, they just made a few more and we were fortunate to get that win. To their credit, Campbell played a little bit better than we did in the last game; they pitched and hit a little better than we did. We need to clean some things up and have some guys be a little more productive on the mound, and we need to have some more productive at-bats. We have some guys competing in the box and on the mound, but we need a few more to get done what we want to get done this year."
- On the upcoming series at No. 1 Vanderbilt:
"I told our guys we're not going to Vanderbilt to be spectators; we're going there to play them and win. It's a great opportunity to play a very good team on the road, and I expect to win. I expect our guys to show up – it's a business trip. We're going there to win, but we'll need to play a lot better than we did today to be in both of those ballgames or have a chance to win. The good thing is our guys are capable of playing much better. I thought we played poorly today, and we took two out of three on the weekend. There are some bright spots. There were some guys who did some really good things over the weekend, but there are just some areas we need to clean up. We want to win the Sun Belt Conference and be in the postseason, and there are things we need to do in order to play better and achieve our goals. But it's early in the season and everyone is a work in progress. Campbell is going to win some ballgames. They are picked to win their conference again, and once they get a couple of guys back healthy on the mound, it wouldn't shock me if they do win it again. That was good for us. They've been a good RPI team; they're going to win some games, and we're going to help each other moving forward. As I look back today, I have a bitter taste in my mouth about this last game, but I wanted these guys to be just a little more greedy. I wanted them to have a greater sense of urgency, and not just be satisfied with knowing we took two out of three. I thought we could have gone a little harder, and that's on me as the head coach of this program."
