SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
– South Alabama (0-5) after competing over the weekend at one of the top non-conference tournaments in the country; the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
– Of the five opponents, three were either ranked or receiving votes in the national polls, while four of the five were 2019 NCAA Regional tournament participants. Four of the five losses were by three runs or less.
– At the plate, South was led by Kennedy Cronan and Shelby Sloan.
– Cronan batted .400 and reached base safely nine times in her four contests.
– Sloan was selected to the all-tournament team for her play after she batted .357 with a home run, three runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base.
– Sloan was the only Jag to record at least one hit in all of the games that she played over the weekend.
– Junior outfielder Amanda Flynn reached base safely in all five games for South at the tourney.
– Freshman pitcher Lexi Hutchins made two impressive outings in relief for South, not allowing an earned run in 8.1 innings of work and limited the opposition to a .167 batting average.
– Against Notre Dame on Sunday, Hutchins entered in relief with the bases loaded and one out, and worked out of the jam with a ground out back to the circle and a strikeout looking.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
– Southern (0-4) comes into Tuesday's midweek contest also seeking its first win after dropping all of its games over the weeked at the Mardi Gras Invitational hosted by Sun Belt member ULM.
– The Jaguars fell 9-1 and 5-0 to the Warhawks, and 3-0 and 7-1 to Stephen F. Austin.
– In the four games, Southern was outscored by a combined 24-2 margin.

– South Alabama holds an all-time record of 23-1 (.958) against current Southwestern Athletic Conference members.
– Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern are three teams from the league that South Alabama has yet to face.
– The seven meetings against Alabama State are the most against a SWAC opponent.
– The Hornets are also the lone team to earn a win against the Jaguars, that one coming on Feb. 22, 2009, a 5-3 decision in Montgomery.
