The University of South Alabama soccer team will wrap up the home portion of the Fall 2020 schedule against Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State this weekend. Coastal will play the Jaguars on Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m., with Appalachian State coming to The Cage Sunday at noon.

The Jaguars and Chanticleers played a torrid seven-goal match which featured three game-tying goals from CCU and a game-winning goal from the penalty spot in the 85th minute, scored by junior Brenna McPartlan. The last three meetings have been decided by only a single goal.

Two days later, the Jags will face Appalachian State on senior day. While COVID brings uncertainty with eligibility and the possibility with players potentially returning, we will honor four players prior to Sunday's match. South took the first match played with the Mountaineers, 3-0, but almost half the meetings in the series have been decided by one goal with one meeting going to penalty kicks in the Sun Belt Tournament.

THEY SAID IT
Head coach Richard Moodie

- On the preparation: "Ultimately we want to concede as little as possible and it is definitely something we can tighten up. It will be a talking point this week and as we prepare for tournament play we need to look at it. This past week at Troy we scored three very good goals and that easily could have been more. We are more than happy where we are at and we have the utmost respect for Coastal and Appalachian State."

- On senior day: "We try not to focus too heavily on one day. It is a great opportunity to recognize them, but I think we try to honor all year long. We respect and play for them. They mentor the youth. I will say that I am thankful that we have seniors that are very involved in the game. [Ana] Helmert and [Deanna] Green have been invested through everything in this program from the good to the bad. They have done everything right and that has helped us to shape and mold this group. Then you have two transfers in [Tabea] Griss and [Athanasia] Moraitou; but to me they equally share that credibility with the amount of effort they have put into this team."
