MILLENAAR EARNS SECOND SBC RUNNER OF THE WEEK HONOR; TEAMS MOVE INTO REGIONAL RANKINGS

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama cross country runner Carolien Millenaar was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Runner of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

The selection for the weekly conference honor marks the second this fall for Millenaar and the 15th in program history by a Jaguar female cross country runner. Millenaar is the first South runner to receive multiple weekly league honors in the same season since

Millenaar continued her outstanding start to the cross country season as she won her second 5k race in as many outings crossing the line first out of the 122 runner field Friday evening at the 5th Annual Wingfoot Classic in Cartersville, Ga., hosted by the Atlanta Track Club. Millenaar, who crossed the line with a time of 17:36.3, shaving nearly 30 seconds off of her previous personal best set at the 2017 Sun Belt Championships.

The junior was one of six Jaguar women to set new personal best in the 5k. Led by Millenaar, the South Alabama women won their second straight team title with 29 points – 16 points fewer than second-place Samford out of the 14-team field.

- The South Alabama men's cross country team moved up four spots in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country South Region Rankings poll to No. 11, while the Jag women entered the region's top 15 coming in at No. 15.

- South Alabama will compete in its third meet of the fall when they travel to Oxford, Ala., to participate in the 14th Annual Foothills Invite hosted by Jacksonville State University at Choccolocco Park.
