MEN’S TENNIS HEADED TO STARKVILLE REGIONAL FOR THE NCAA TOURNAMENT, WILL FACE TULANE IN FIRST ROUND

INDIANAPOLIS  — The University of South Alabama men's tennis team is headed to play in the Starkville, Miss., regional vs. Tulane as the three seed in the NCAA Tournament on May 3 as announced by the NCAA selection committee on Monday, April 29.

The 18-6 Jaguars learned of their opponent and regional location at a watch party at Baumhowers Victory Grille.

The Jaguars earned the Sun Belt's automatic qualifier spot with a 4-1 win over Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and will be making their second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

After wining their 18th Sun Belt title, this marks the program's 13th appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Jags own a 7-12 all-time record in the NCAA tournament, with their last win coming against No. 21 Memphis last season in the Starkville regional.

South Alabama is 15-11 all-time vs. Tulane, having last played them on March 15, 2014. The Jags last beat the Green Wave on March 28, 1997. The matchup with Tulane is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Starville, Miss.

Head Coach Nick Brochu had this to say about the draw, "It's exciting. I think it's a good draw. We played in Starkville last year so we are used to the atmosphere, the courts, being a third seed again. We haven't played Tulane in five years. Great Program, great coach. Tulane started very strong this year. They went to the ITA Nationals, so they had a big start. Dropped a little bit, but they finished the season strong. It's a great draw, and the guys are very excited. We're back in Starkville, it was magical last year and the guys are excited to go back."

This will be Coach Brochu's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament with the Jaguars, taking the program to the postseason in 2008, 2018 and 2019.  He had this to say about how the team feels, how they are playing, and the matchup. "The guys are thrilled. I think, Tulane is strong one through six. They don't have a weak spot. At the end of the day it's going to be a battle on every court. We have the level to play with them for sure. We just have to make sure that all six players show up ready to play and execute our game plan. We don't have to overplay, or play bigger or better than we usually do. We have the talent and the heart to compete with Tulane, and it should be a great match."
