JONESBORO, Ark. – University of South Alabama sophomore
Yu Fujioka clinched points in doubles and singles to help the women's tennis team defeat Arkansas State 4-1 Sunday at the A-State Tennis Complex.
The Jaguars improve to 16-3 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Red Wolves fall to 3-10 and 0-6.
DOUBLES
-The Jaguars took the doubles point with identical 6-4 scores on courts 1 and 2
-Senior
Patricia Martins and sophomore
Milka Pasanen downed Anita Detlava and Berta Masdevall Masip at No. 1, and senior
Alexandria Stiteler and Fujioka defeated Shannon O'Brien and Shelby King at No. 2
SINGLES
-USA lost just two games in picking up wins at Nos. 4 and 6
-Sophomore
Nikola Kohoutova dropped Masip 6-0, 6-1 on court 4 and junior
Diana Monsalve blanked Eliza Babos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 for a 3-0 lead
-Pornpawee Pramethong pulled one back for Arkansas State at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Stiteler
-Fujioka closed out the match on court 2 when she topped King 7-5, 6-2
NOTES
-South Alabama leads the series 14-1
-Kohoutova improved to a team-best 15-2 this spring and has won eight in a row, tied with Pasanen for the longest on the team
