FORT COLLINS, Colo.  — The University of South Alabama women's basketball team earned an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament as announced by the selection committee on Monday evening. 

The Jaguars will take on the Lamar University Cardinals (24-6) at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, March 22 in the opening round. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Wyoming vs. Northern Colorado in the second round of the tournament. 

This is the fourth time in program history that South Alabama is headed to the WNIT, and the Jags go back to the postseason for the second straight year after advancing to the semifinals of the WBI last season. South Alabama previously made the WNIT in 1988, 2003, and 2004. 

South Alabama made its first run to the Sun Belt Conference Championship game since 1989 and played five games in six days in the tournament. The Jags are one of three teams from the Sun Belt Conference to make the WNIT, joining the Jaguars are the UT Arlington Lady Mavs and the Troy Trojans. 

The Jags went 24-10 on the season and tied the mark for the most wins in program history.

Lamar University has announced the game time and ticket information. General admission tickets will start at $6, for the game on Friday night.
