BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Behind four straight-set victories in singles, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team downed UAB 6-1 Saturday afternoon at George Ward Park.
The Jaguars go to 5-0 on the season, while the Blazers fall to 2-4.
DOUBLES
-The Jaguars swept doubles to take a 1-0 lead

Alexandria Stiteler and sophomore
Nikola Kohoutova topped Sophie Dodds and Megan Bertrands at No. 3, 6-2
-Sophomore
Yu Fujioka and freshman
Yurie Takanishi won 6-3 over Jana Hecking and Dominika Hrabalova
SINGLES
-Senior
Patricia Martins and Kohoutova lost a combined five games at Nos. 6 and 4, respectively, to put the Jags up 3-0; Martins defeated Hrabalova 6-1, 6-1 and Kohoutova got past Hecking 6-2, 6-1
-Alex Shchipakina pulled the Blazers back with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Takanishi at No. 2, but Stiteler clinched the win on court 1 against Marlene Herrmann, 6-4, 6-3
-Sophomore
Milka Pasanen edged Megan Bertrands 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5, and Fujioka outlasted Dodds 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 on court 3
NOTES
-South Alabama has never lost to UAB, winning all 30 matches in the two schools' history
-Martins is a team-best 5-0 this spring, including 4-0 at No. 6
-The Jaguars are a combined 12-1 in doubles – 8-0 at the top two flights – in 2019
