AUSTIN, Texas – University of South Alabama junior
Herb McGee has been voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® 4 Men's Basketball Team, it was announced Thursday.
The Reserve, La., native is the first USA men's basketball student-athlete on record to earn academic all-district honors. He will move on to the Academic All-America® ballot; results will be announced in March.
McGee, who has a 3.39 GPA in biology, is averaging 9.3 points and 3.0 assists per game this season, starting 18 times in 24 appearances.
Since returning to the starting lineup on Jan. 19, McGee is averaging 15.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.9 3-pointers per game, while reaching double-digit points seven times. He set a new career high with 24 points at Arkansas State on Feb. 7, then surpassed that with 26 points at Georgia State on Saturday.
Earlier in the year, he was credited with 11 assists vs. Southeast Missouri State, a new personal best and the most by a Jaguar since 2007-08.
McGee has been named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List (3.5-4.0 GPA) and Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA).
