NEW ORLEANS – South Alabama men's basketball senior guard Chaze Harris was named Sun Belt Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday evening.
Harris delivered one of the most statistically dominant weeks of the season during the opening week of Sun Belt play. Across two road games, he averaged 30.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game, in two road contests.
Harris opened the week with a career performance at ULM, pouring in 38 points on 16-of-22 shooting while adding eight assists, five rebounds, and six steals in nearly 47 minutes of action during a double-overtime comeback victory. He scored 14 of South Alabama's 25 points across the two overtime periods, including clutch free throws in the final seconds to seal the win. His 16 made field goals tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history and marked the highest scoring output by any player in the Sun Belt this season. With the performance, Harris became the first player in the nation this year to record at least 35 points, five assists, and five steals while shooting 70 percent from the field in a single game.
He followed that effort with another strong showing at Texas State, finishing with 22 points, a team-high six rebounds, five assists, and two steals while logging nearly 40 minutes. Harris shot 9-for-20 from the floor, extending his streak to three consecutive games with 20 or more points while continuing to serve as South Alabama's primary offensive catalyst.
Harris is the fourth Jaguar in the last three seasons to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors. Barry Dunning Jr. and Myles Corey each received the award last season, while Samuel Tabe earned the accolade on Feb. 27, 2024.
