Opening Tip
• The Jags take to the road for the first time since Nov. 8 with the first of back-to-back contests away from the Mitchell Center.
• This will be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2010-11 season, although the Green Wave claimed a 65-51 exhibition victory over South in New Orleans on Nov. 5, 2017.
• Since ending the Jaguars' longest win streak in the series — a stretch of eight consecutive victories from Feb. 12, 1983-Jan. 13, 1989 — Tulane has won five straight match-ups between the two programs.
• Seven of 10 meetings in New Orleans in the series have been decided by 10 points or less.
• It's the first time USA will face an American Athletic Conference opponent since visiting Central Florida on Nov. 13, 2016.
Kines Climbs List While Leading Jags Again
After making four three-pointers in the Auburn game on Wednesday, Shaforia Kines moved into a tie for fourth place on the school's all-time list — she now has 146 in her career — with Shakira Nettles (2007-10). The senior started the year 2-of-17 from behind the arc over the Jaguars' first four contests, but in the last four outings she has connected on 14-of-31 (45.2%). It was part of an effort that saw the senior guard pace South with 18 points, the team-high fifth time this year she has accomplished the feat, as she has now scored in double figures in four straight outings.
Streaking Savannah
Savannah Jones contributed 13 points in the match-up with the Tigers, making it four games in a row that the junior has scored in double digits after recording 10-plus points four times in the previous nine contests dating back to Feb. 28 last season. The guard has made 15 three-pointers in the Jags' last four outings after connecting on just eight triples in the opening four contests of the season.
Passing Her Boards
Junior Antoinette Lewis recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds last time out for her fourth double-double of the campaign; it was her first since the Jags faced Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 15, and the 20th of her career (in 78 all-time appearances). It was the eighth time in as many outings that the center has led the squad on the glass — and the sixth occasion she has paced all players — this year, her longest streak since turning the trick in eight straight games from Dec. 17-Jan. 17 a season ago.
Telemaque Displays Touch Against Tigers
Damaya Telemaque added 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor against the Tigers as the sophomore matched her season high scoring total recorded in the opener against Rutgers on Nov. 5. It was the first time Telemaque posted 10-plus points since scoring 11 in a Nov. 14 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as coming into play she had scored 11 points while making 4-of-8 attempts from the floor against Alabama and Tennessee State while missing the Mobile win in between due to injury. The guard also led USA with a career-high-tying two steals, the first time she was credited with more than one theft since the team's Sun Belt Conference opener at Appalachian State on Jan. 3 last year.
Additional Notes From The Auburn Game
• The Jaguars were 10-of-31 from beyond the arc, marking the first time this season they have hit 10 or more treys in consecutive contests.
• USA was just 2-of-4 at the free-throw line, the first time it has attempted fewer than 10 foul shots since a 67-50 win over Coastal Carolina on March 7 a year ago.
• South entered play leading the Sun Belt Conference with 5.1 blocks per game but failed to record a rejection for the first time since a Dec. 5 victory at Alabama last season.
• AU was 17-of-29 (58.6%) from the floor in the second half to become the first team this season to connect on better than 50 percent overall against the Jaguars.
• Nine of the Jaguars' 15 turnovers came after the break, with the Tigers turning those into 13 points.
