Opening Tip
• This is the first time this season that the Jaguars will play consecutive contests on the road after defeating Tulane in New Orleans last time out.
• It's the 13th straight season the two teams will meet, with each school winning six times during that span after South's 77-68 victory at the Mitchell Center last November.
• When the Jags won the last meeting at Reed Green Coliseum on Nov. 30, 2017, it was their first victory in Hattiesburg since Dec. 4, 2007.
• Each of the last six outcomes in the series has been decided by nine points or more.
• Southern Miss is the second Conference USA opponent USA is facing this season having played UAB in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 8.
Kines Clutch In Tulane Win
Shaforia Kines scored eight of her game-high 23 points over the final five minutes at Tulane to help the Jaguars record their second victory of the season when trailing at the end of three periods (the first came on Nov. 14 when USA defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in double overtime).  The senior made 3-of-5 shots from the field — including a three and a free throw — in the fourth quarter as she ended up paced the Jags in scoring for the third straight outing, the first time this year that an individual in the program has accomplished the feat.  Kines has now scored 10 or more points in five straight games, and she is tied for the team lead with three performances of 20-plus points
Back-To-Back Big Nights For Lewis
C Antoinette Lewis posted a double-double against the Green Wave with 12 points and 16 rebounds, marking the first time since South's Preseason WNIT contests against TAMUCC and Miami (Ohio) that she has turned the trick in consecutive outings.  It was the junior's fifth double-double of the year — she not only leads the Sun Belt Conference but is ranked 12th in the country in the category — as well as the seventh occasion she has recorded 10 or more boards.  Lewis has paced the Jaguars on the glass in 11 straight contests dating back to the WNIT last March, leading all players in the category eight times during that stretch.
Threat From Three
Redshirt junior Savannah Jones has posted a double-digit scoring total in each of the last five games after contributing 12 points in the TU game, with the guard adding a team-high-tying three assists to lead USA in the category for the first time since the season opener against Rutgers on Nov. 5.  As she approaches becoming the first individual in school history to sink 200 three-point field goals, Jones has made at least one shot from beyond the arc in each of her last 20 appearances dating back to the Jaguars' Jan. 24 win over Louisiana a year ago.
Second-Half Shutdown
South allowed a season-low 22 second-half points to the Green Wave to overcome a five-point deficit at the break, limiting TU to just 7-of-33 (21.2%) shooting over the final 20 minutes.  With the effort, the Jags improved to 3-0 when holding the opposition to 59 or fewer points while they have now won four of five contests in which they held opponents below 40 percent from the field.
Additional Notes From The Tulane Game
• The Jags finished with just nine turnovers, matching their season-low total in the category recorded in each of the first two outings of the season, and were able to score 15 points off of the 18 committed by the Green Wave.
• It was the first time this season USA has won when the opponent has connected on more three-point field goals.
• The Jaguars finished with an advantage in points in the paint for the first time since defeating Mobile on Nov. 26.
• Senior Kennedi Centers finished with six points, two blocks and a pair of steals — all her first of the year — to go along with a season-high-tying two assists in 17 minutes off the bench.
• Jala Buster's five rebounds, which were one shy of tying a career high, matched her total from the previous two games combined.
