Opening Kick
• This is the last scheduled home game for South Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
• Prior to kickoff 15 seniors will be recognized before their final contest with the program.
• It marks the sixth time in the last seven years the Jaguars will play their final game of the regular season at home.
• South has a 5-5 mark in the program's first 10 seasons in its regular-season finale while posting a 6-4 record on Senior Day.
• It's the second straight visit for the Red Wolves' as the Jags' Senior Day opponent, with USA earning a 24-19 victory on Nov. 11, 2017.
South Alabama-Arkansas State Series Notes
• That Senior Day win is the only one for the Jags in the series to date.
• It was also the lone match-up between the two teams to be decided by one score since the 2014 campaign after each of the first two contests featured a margin of seven points or less.
• The winning team has scored 36 or more points in four of the first eight meetings, while the losing squad has failed to reach the 20-point plateau on six occasions including each of the last three games.
• The Red Wolves posted 49 points — including 29 in the final quarter — in a 2015 victory in Mobile but have scored 36 in their other two games against the Jaguars at Ladd-Peebles Stadium combined.
• A-State recorded 38 points in last year's win in Jonesboro after being limited by the South defense to 36 total points in the previous two match-ups.
Notes From The Last Arkansas State Meeting
• The 93 yards passing were the fewest for the Jaguar offense in a Sun Belt Conference game last fall.
• Despite outgaining A-State on the ground and holding the ball for nearly 31 minutes the Jags were forced to punt nine times, equaling the most they had in league play a year ago.
• Nigel Lawrence led all players with 17 stops, which were not only a career high but at the time the most recorded by any individual in a conference game.
• The Red Wolves' Justin McInnis had 177 receiving yards, the highest total recorded by an opposing player in 2018.
• It was the seventh time in nine games at that point in the season that Tra Minter finished with 100 or more all-purpose yards.
Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 163-72 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over four years at Central Arkansas from 2014-17, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances before taking over at South Alabama.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 20 seasons no team coached by Campbell finished below .500 prior to the 2018 campaign.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
• Campbell and Jaguar coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.
Senior Sets One Mark, Chases Another
Minter had 12 rushing yards on the Jaguars' opening possession at Georgia State to become the school's all-time leader in all-purpose yards, ending the contest with 4,210 over the last two-plus seasons after posting 127 against the Panthers; with the effort he passed former teammate Xavier Johnson, who recorded 4,094 yards from 2014-17. The senior needs only six yards to pass Johnson and set South's season rushing record, while with 49 yards against the Red Wolves he'll become the first individual in program history to run for 1,000 in a season.
Back In The Opposing Backfield
The GSU game was the sixth in a row with a stop for loss for Jeffery Whatley — the senior shared game-high honors in the category with Travis Reed after both finished with two — while it was the fourth time this season that the defensive lineman has been credited with multiple tackles behind the line in a game. After entering the fall with 2½ tackles for loss in 27 appearances, Whatley comes the into final game of his career at South tied for third in the league as well as seventh in the program's season record book in the category.
Baker The Play Maker
Junior Kawaan Baker tied for the most catches on the team after posting three receptions for 56 yards last time out, marking the first time he has finished with over 50 receiving yards since recording a career-best 126 against Georgia Southern on Oct. 3. With the effort, he went over 1,100 yards in his career and passed both Danny Woodson II (2013-15) and Courtney Smith (2009-10) to move up two spots into eighth place on the school's all-time list in the category.
Brooks Has Big Day
P Jack Brooks averaged a career-best 49.6 yards on five punts at GSU, and he matched another career high after three of those efforts ended up inside the Panther 20-yard line. All five of his kicks travelled at least 45 yards as he recorded the fourth-highest average in a game against NCAA Division I competition (minimum four attempts) in South's record book while posting the best mark by a Jaguar punter in over two years.
Linebacker the Leading Man Again
Nick Mobley shared game-high honors after recording seven total tackles against the Panthers, the sixth time this fall he has paced the Jags in the category. It's the first time a Jaguar linebacker has led the team in stops in at least six contests since Enrique Williams accomplished the feat on six occasions in 2013, with the effort leaving Mobley one tackle shy of entering the top 10 on USA's season record list.
Wayne's World
WR Jalen Wayne scored South's first touchdown against the Panthers with a 20-yard reception midway through the final quarter, the second time in three weeks that he has reached the end zone. After going without a catch in his first five appearances this year, the sophomore wideout now has four receptions for 48 yards this month.
