NOTES
- The South women are ranked No. 13 in the South Region and have recorded three wins this season and finished inside the top five in the other two, including a second-place finish at the Sun Belt Championships.
- The Jaguar men – who also hold three team victories this fall – are coming off a sixth-place finish at the league meet, but were separated by just 19 points from second place.
- Carolien Milenaar and Andonet Cheruiyot have crossed the line first for the Jags with Milenaar twice winning this fall. Cheruiyot has finished either second or third in all five of her meets this fall, including a second-place finish at the SBC meet.
- Milenaar has twice been named the league's runner of the week, while Cheruiyot received the honor on Oct. 23.
- Last fall, Cheruiyot posted a new 6k personal best time of 21:21.3 and placed 32nd at the NCAA South Regional held on the same course.
- Onesmus Kemboi has captured two titles and a pair of fourth-place finishes this season, while Warno Potgeiter has finished second in three meets and was named the ROTW on Sept. 3.
- Three Jag – Cheruiyot (first team), Millenaar (second team) and Silje Linstad (third team) – took home all-conference honors, and three South Alabama men – Kemboi (second team), Potgieter (second team) and Thomas Sand (third team) – received all league honors with their top 15 finishes. Kemboi was also selected as the Sun Belt's Newcomer of the Year.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Parker Cowles
- On what the team has worked on since its last meet: "Since the Sun Belt Championships, preparation for the regional has mainly been focused on the longer race distances which we'll see this weekend. On the men's side especially, team success depends a lot on executing over 10 kilometers and running a patient race. Even at this high level of competition, many athletes will be unfamiliar with the race and begin too fast and really fade over the final kilometers. We are hoping to make the race distance an advantage for us."
- On his goals for his teams this weekend: "My goal is to see us run competitively as a team. I think we are beginning to establish ourselves as one of the best programs outside of the Power 5 in the region, but to continue that we need to finish among programs like North Florida, Memphis, Southern Miss, Belmont and Lipscomb and also be in front of some SEC and ACC programs."
