TEE SHOTS
-This marks South's first event in the Volunteer State since posting a second-place finish in a field of 15 teams at the Memphis Intercollegiate March 31-April 1, 2014.
-Two of the three Jaguars who placed in the top 20 last time out at the Prairie Club Invitational — LeCroy and Robinson — will be in the lineup this week.
-LeCroy has finished among the top 15 at each of his first two tournaments for the Jags, leading the team with three scores at or below par.
-Karlsson had USA's best score on the final day at South Dakota State on Monday as all six of his rounds this fall have counted toward the team score.
-Robinson has recorded at least one score of par or better at all six stroke-play tournaments he has competed in dating back to the start of the spring campaign last year.
-This will be Hatter's first stroke-play event since competing as an individual at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate to open the spring last February; he was last in the lineup at the Jerry Weeks Match Play on April 1 last season.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Ben Hannan
On the team playing a second tournament in a week: "Due to the short turnaround we didn't have a chance to qualify so we hand-picked the lineup and changed it a little bit. Attitudes have been good, the guys have been working hard on their games trying to prepare for Middle Tennessee the best we can without having seen the golf course before."
On the opportunity for the student-athletes selected to participate in the event: "Any time you get a chance to play, it's an opportunity to compete. Qualifying is very important, we've been playing some great golf at home and shooting some really competitive numbers as a group. This team is as deep and competitive as I can remember, so that puts the onus on tournament play and taking your game on the road. It's a great opportunity for everyone playing this week but it is also a lot of fun, that's why we work hard day in and day out — for the opportunity to play and compete."
On what needs to happen to be able to consider the event a success: "Success for us is always about controlling what we can and staying in the process. Since we can't control the result, we need to stay patient and commit to the process. When we do that, this group is pretty talented and obviously can play really good golf and good golf typically results in success. The goal for us this week — and every week — is to have the discipline to do what we know works and stay in the process throughout the ups and downs, and that's hard in this game because it is easy to get impatient, press and spin. Those are the things for us that will make the difference whether or not we are successful."
