Opening Kick
• South returns home for the first time since facing Memphis at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Sept. 14.
• It's also the Jaguars' initial contest in October, the first of three they will play in the month against opponents that won 10 or more games including a postseason bowl in 2018.
• USA enters play with a 15-13 mark all-time at home in Sun Belt Conference action; eight of those wins have come in October.
• This is the first of two weeknight games for the Jags this fall.
• The Jaguars have a 4-2 record in games on Thursday after having played the previous Saturday, although their last victory under those circumstances was over Louisiana on Nov. 12, 2015.

South Alabama-Georgia Southern Series Notes
• Georgia Southern has claimed the first five match-ups in the series, averaging 41.4 points per contest in the process.
• The Eagles, however, have averaged 51.7 points per game at home and just 26 per outing in Mobile.
• The Jaguars have never scored more than 17 points in the series, and are averaging nine points per outing against the Eagles.
• The lone shutout in USA's history was a 52-0 loss at GS on Nov. 18, 2017.
• The Eagles own three of the top seven rushing performances by an opponent in South's record books, while coming into the season they were the only school to appear multiple times on the top-10 list for total offense recorded against the Jag defense.

Notes From The Last Georgia Southern Meeting
• The Eagles forced USA to commit a season-high-tying four turnovers, which led to 21 points.
• After recording the only points of the opening quarter on a touchdown, the GS offense scored on six straight possessions from the start of the second quarter through late in the fourth to break open the contest.
• It marked the only time during the 2018 season that the Jaguar defense surrendered less than 100 yards passing.
• Kawaan Baker posted a season high with 124 all-purpose yards, including a team-best 79 on three receptions.
• With a career-high eight tackles, it marked the first time in his time at South that senior S Malcolm Buggs led the squad in the category.

Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 163-66 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over four years at Central Arkansas from 2014-17, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances before taking over at South Alabama.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 20 seasons no team coached by Campbell finished below .500 prior to the 2018 campaign.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
• Campbell and Jaguar coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.

Dual Threat
Senior Tra Minter posted his second 100-yard game of the season — the other came in the Jaguars' win over Jackson State on Sept. 7 — and the third of his career after leading all players with 150 on 19 carries at ULM, becoming the fifth individual in program history with three or more such games in a career.  He also tied for team-high honors with four receptions, and with 61 over the last two-plus seasons moved into the top 10 on South's all-time list in the category (he's the lone running back in the group).

A Return To "Run" The Offense
After missing the final three quarters at UAB the previous week, Cephus Johnson was in the starting lineup against the Warhawks last time out; his three-yard run midway through the opening quarter marked the first time South scored on its opening possession since the  JSU victory.  The sophomore would lead another 75-yard drive in the final period that he capped with an eight-yard touchdown run — making him the first Jaguar quarterback to rush for multiple scores in a game since Cole Garvin had a pair in the 2017 opener at Ole Miss — to finish the night with a career-high 72 yards on the ground, and he added 114 yards on 14-of-26 passing in recording his highest total offense figure since finishing with 240 yards in the opener at Nebraska.

Mobley Manning The Middle
In addition to leading the team in stops for the second straight week and third time this fall, LB Nick Mobley posted his first sack of the season — which ended the Warhawks' opening possession of the second half — among his nine total tackles.  The only Jag among the top 10 in stops per game in the league's statistical rankings, the sophomore became the first individual from USA's defense to pace the squad in the category in consecutive outings since Nigel Lawrence accomplished the feat in games at Memphis and Appalachian State on Sept. 22 and 29 last fall.

Rock Steady
Rocel McWilliams has been credited with at least one tackle for loss in three straight games after making both solo and assisted stops in the Warhawk backfield last time out, with the total including a sack for the second time in as many weeks.  The senior, who sat out last fall after suffering an injury during camp, recorded four stops in South's first two games combined but has reached that figure in each of the last three outings after finishing with four at ULM.

Career Day For Jag Cornerback
Senior Travis Reed posted a career-high six tackles in the ULM contest — two more than his previous best first recorded in his NCAA Division I debut against Louisiana Tech in last fall's opener, which he matched against Memphis on Sept. 14 this year — while breaking up multiple passes for the first time since joining the program.  With 17 stops and three passes defensed entering October, the senior has already surpassed his total in both categories (15 and one, respectively) recorded a year ago in nine appearances.
