WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLOSES OUT FIRST WEEK OF 2018-19 PRACTICES

MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama women's basketball team officially kicked off the 2018-19 season with its first official week of team practices, which began on Wednesday (Sept. 26).

"I was pleased with our effort in our first two practices," head coach Terry Fowler said. "We've had great energy and great attitudes."

The Jaguars welcome back seven letter winners including Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Savannah Jones. Jones returns as the Jags' leading scorer having averaged 12.1 points per game last season and made 70 three-pointers to lead the squad.

South also welcomes five newcomers to the squad – freshmen Mahogany Vaught, Jala Buster and Damaya Telemaque and junior Emerald Hart.

"We came into practices in pretty good condition thanks to our strength and conditioning coach Nick Kuhlman," Fowler said. "We're looking to build on what did in off-season workouts with our final 27 practices as we head towards the season."

The Jaguars first game will be an exhibition in Mobile at the Mitchell Center against William Carey on Nov.1, before opening the regular season at the Mitchell Center against Spring Hill on Nov. 7.
