BROWN AND TODD CONCLUDE FIRST PROFESSIONAL SEASONS

MOBILE, Ala. – Former University of South Alabama softball players Kaleigh Todd and Devin Brown concluded their first professional seasons earlier this summer.

Below is a recap on how the two Jaguar alums did during their first professional seasons:

Devin Brown (Cleveland Comets)
Brown – the 29th overall pick of the fourth round of the National Pro Fastpitch College Draft at the end of April – was a member of the Cleveland Comets (10-38) this past summer in the organizations first season.

The Mobile, Ala., native led the Comets in innings pitched (112.1) and strikeouts (48).   Her 48 strikeouts were also tied for seventh-most in the NPF.  Brown finished the season with a 3-18 record and a 5.36 earned run average.  The three-time first-team all-Sun Belt Conference selection recorded first professional win on June 16 in an 11-3 victory over the Bejing Eagles.

She then registered the first complete game in franchise history in a 3-1 win over the Aussie Spirt on June 27 retiring seven of the final eight batters that she faced.  In her seven innings of work, Brown allowed just three hits and an unearned run, while striking out four.

The 12-time SBC Pitcher of the Week concluded an outstanding career and left holding the program marks for career strikeouts (932) and shutouts (31).  Her 39 career double-digit strikeout games were also a program standard.  Brown also ended her career ranked fourth all-time in the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts, while ranking in the top 10 of the league career marks in shutouts and complete games (77).

Kaleigh Todd (Mobile USA!)
Todd, who was the 33rd overall pick of the ninth round of the Inaugural Draft of the American Softball Association in early June, helped lead Mobile USA! to a first-place regular-season finish with a 17-10 record and advance to the ASBA Championship series.  Todd started all 27 games for Mobile and went 25-for-90 at the plate (.278).  She also scored 16 runs, drove in six walked nine times and was 12-of-16 in her stolen base attempts, while earning ASBA All-Star honors at second base.  Her 12 stolen bases were tied for fourth-most in the league.

The Bessemer, Ala., native joined the professional ranks after capping off a stellar career in a South Alabama uniform where she left holding the program's all-time career leader in hits (231), stolen bases (74), batting average (.374) and multi-hit games (63).  Her 213 games played were tied with two other players for second most in program history and her 166 consecutive starts are fourth on the all-time list.

This past season, Todd earned first-team all-league honors for the third time in her career, and was named third-team all-South Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the second straight season.  Along with Brown, Todd is just one of three players in South Alabama history to be a three-time, first-team all-SBC selection.
