MEN’S BASKETBALL TO HOST MOBILE PATRIOTS WHEELCHAIR TEAM THURSDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The Mobile Patriots, a competitive wheelchair basketball team, and the University of South Alabama men's basketball program will be holding an event Thursday afternoon at the Mitchell Center to promote the Patriots' upcoming fundraiser.

The Patriots will be hosting a tournament the following week to raise money for equipment and travel expenses.

At 4 p.m., following the conclusion of practice, the Patriots will give the USA men's basketball team a course on wheelchair basketball, then take on the Jaguars in a game.

The event is free and open to the public. All South Alabama students are encouraged to attend and will be invited to attempt shots from a wheelchair after the game.

The Mobile Patriots were formed in 1984 and compete in Division 3 of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association. The team is comprised of players from Mobile and Baldwin Counties, the Pensacola area and the Gulf Coast. Three U.S. veterans, including a Purple Heart recipient, are members of the current team.

Money raised in their current fundraising drive will go towards travel expenses and new chairs.
