TOLEDO, Ohio — South Alabama opened its 2025–26 campaign with a statement road victory Monday night, edging Toledo 76–74 in the MAC–SBC Challenge at Savage Arena.

Junior forward Adam Olsen led the way with 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including five three-pointers, while Peyton Law added 18 points on a nearly perfect 9-for-10 from the field with six rebounds. Chaze Harris finished with 10 points and a team-high seven assists in his home state to help the Jaguars secure their first win of the season.

Randy Brady controlled the glass with 10 rebounds and seven points as South Alabama out-rebounded the Rockets 36–26, including an 11–5 advantage on the offensive boards.

The Jaguars shot an efficient 55.2 percent from the field while limiting Toledo to 47.3 percent overall. South dominated the paint for the second time this season, outscoring the Rockets 48–22 inside.

South Alabama jumped out quickly behind hot first-half shooting, hitting 58.6 percent from the floor while holding Toledo to 33.3 percent overall and 18.7 percent from three (3-for-16). The Jaguars took a 39–26 lead into halftime before Toledo mounted a second-half rally, hitting 12-of-17 threes after the break.

The Jaguars came out firing, building an early 17–7 advantage behind timely shooting from Olsen and Law. Olsen scored 15 first-half points, while Law added eight as South took a 13-point cushion into the locker room.

A 14–6 run to open the second half pushed the lead to 53–34 at the 16:44 mark, highlighted by a flurry of layups from Law, Harris, Cooper, and Brady.

Toledo (0–1) clawed back with a 14–2 spurt late in the half to trim the deficit to single digits. After the Rockets cut it to two in the final minute, Harris connected with Law for a clutch layup through contact to extend the lead to four with 12 seconds remaining.

The Rockets drained a late three to make it a one-possession game, but South's defense held firm, forcing an off-balance attempt at the buzzer to seal the win.

"Our guys showed a lot of toughness tonight," head coach Richie Riley said. "Winning on the road in an environment like this isn't easy, especially against a team as well-coached as Toledo. I thought we executed when we needed to and made winning plays down the stretch."
