JAG VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT FSU IN EXHIBITION MATCH

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State swept the University of South Alabama volleyball team in straight sets in an exhibition match Friday at Tully Gymnasium.

The Seminoles won the opening set 30-28, followed by a 25-20 win in the second set. FSU clinched the match with a 25-20 win in set three.

"Our team responds best when they are pushed," USA head coach Amy Hendrichovsky said. "We have a tough non-conference schedule, and I thought it would be better for us this weekend to find out what we need to get better at and work on, and what we're doing well going into next weekend, as opposed to playing somebody just to play and not really learn exactly where we're at.

"Florida State is a quality opponent nationally and in the ACC, and it was a perfect opportunity for us to see. I thought our team responded and did exactly what we asked them to do. We played a remarkable set one; if we pull out that set then it could be a different match. But the things we have been working on this preseason we did well, and the things I thought we needed to work on – we definitely were exposed and we need to get reps in those areas."

South Alabama will open the 2018 season next weekend when it travels to Dayton, Ohio, to compete in the Dayton Invitational Aug. 24-25. The Jaguars will open the tournament against Ball State at 2 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 24, followed by a pair of matches on Saturday against Marshall (9:30 a.m.) and Dayton (6:30 p.m.).
