SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
– South Alabama (19-20, 5-9 SBC) enters the midweek outing after being swept at SBC leader No. 24/25 Texas State. In the series finale, the Jaguars held a 5-2 lead heading into the sixth, but only to see the Bobcats score seven runs in the inning.
– South attempted to rally back in the seventh scoring a run and bringing the potential game-winning run to the plate with the bases loaded, but Randi Rupp was able to get a strikeout to end the game.
– Kaleigh Todd recorded her team-high 12th multi-hit game of the season in the loss. It was also the 56th of her career and extended her hit streak to a career-best 13 games and her reached base safely streak to 15 games.
– The 13 game hit streak for Todd is the sixth longest in program history and the longest since former Jags Emily Messer and Haleigh Lane's 15-game streaks back during the 2015 season.
– During her current hit streak, Todd is batting .520 and the senior second baseman has also recorded nine multi-hit outings. She has also scored 12 runs for the Jags and driven in five during the streak.
– Todd is nearing many career records for the Jaguars as she is one multi-hit game away from tying Brittany Fowler's program mark. Todd is also three stolen bases (66) and six hits (207) from garnering top honors in both career categories.
– This season, Todd leads the club and is tied for 10th in the Sun Belt with a .366 batting average. Her 20 runs scored are tied with Brittani Reid for most on the Jaguar roster, while her 45 hits rank sixth in the SBC.
– B. Reid has also put up solid numbers this season as she is second on the club with a .307 average. Of B. Reid's 35 hits on the year, 16 have gone for extra bases. The sophomore outfielder recorded her team-leading fifth home run of the season on Sunday. She has seven doubles and two triples, and has recorded 61 total bases and driven in 16 runs. Her 61 total bases are tied for 10th in the league.
– Like Todd, B. Reid has been good getting on base for the Jaguars of late as she enters the game with a 13 game reached base safely streak.
– Haleigh Lowe is hitting .270 to go along with her two doubles, two triples, two home runs and 15 RBI. Lowe has a team-best five multiple-RBI games this season.
– Kristian Foster, who like Lowe hit her second home run of the season on Sunday, leads the team with nine doubles and 22 RBI. Foster is currently tied for fourth in the conference in doubles.
– Freshman Kamdyn Kvistad is second on the club with four home runs and 17 RBI. She has also walked 16 times this season.
– The Jag power numbers have increased over the last 11 games. Since its three home run outbreak at McNeese State on Feb. 28, South Alabama has recorded 11 of its 17 home runs, including another three home run game in the finale at Texas State, during that stretch.
– Devin Brown (12-11) enters play this week with a 2.17 earned run average and 150 strikeouts. She has 16 complete games on the year and holds five shutouts – four solo and one combined.
– Brown is second in the league in innings pitched (154.2), strikeouts looking (42) and strikeouts. Her strikeout tally is 24th in the latest NCAA rankings.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN
– Southern (11-15, 5-6 SWAC) comes into Wednesday's contest after dropping a pair of one-run decisions to Prairie View A&M in Baton Rouge. SU fell 3-2 in game one and then 8-7 in game two. Game three of the series was postponed due to weather.
– The Jaguars will take on Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on Tuesday night before traveling to Mobile.
– The road game against the Golden Eagles will be the first away from Baton Rouge since March 17 when the Jaguars on 7-4 at Alabama State in Montgomery. Prior to Tuesday evening's game at USM, SU had played its last 10 contests on its home field.
– Kiara Suttles leads the club offensively in several categories – batting average (.405), hits (30), doubles (7), home runs (8), RBI (25), total bases (61) and slugging percentage (.824).
– Elizabeth Donaldson, who was a member of fellow Sun Belt member Texas State's roster during the 2016 season, is batting .351. She has five doubles and three home runs, while she has also driven in 11.
– Sydney Andrews (.288) paces the club in runs scored with 25, and Jamani Greer (.295) has seven extra-base hits and 20 RBI.
– Donaldson and Aubrion James both have a team-high 12 stolen bases, while Andrews is 11-for-12 in her stolen base attempts. As a team, Southern is 55-for-65 in that category.
– Southern's pitching staff enters the week with a 4.46 earned run average, but the Jaguars have only given up two home runs all season. Opponents are batting .272 against the club and are averaging 5.6 runs per contest.
– James, who pitches and plays in the outfield, holds a 3.27 ERA and is 6-6 on the year. She has gone the distance in seven of her nine starts this season.
THE SERIES VS. SOUTHERN
– The meeting between South Alabama and Southern will mark the first in the all-time series between the two clubs.
THE JAGUARS VS. THE SWAC
– South Alabama holds an all-time record of 22-1 (.957) against current Southwestern Athletic Conference members.
– Southern is one of four opponents (Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern) from the league that South Alabama has yet to face.
– The seven meetings against Alabama State are the most against a SWAC opponent. South Alabama defeated Alabama State 8-0 in five innings in Mobile last season.
– The Hornets are also the lone team to earn a win against the Jaguars, that one coming on Feb. 22, 2009, a 5-3 decision in Montgomery.
