GAME FACTS
-Todd led the game off with a double down the leftfield line and then advanced to third on a passed ball. With one away in the inning and a 2-1 count to Foster, the Jag shortstop dropped down a squeeze bunt to score Todd and give the Jags a 1-0 lead.
-The Jags erupted for four runs on five hits in their half of the third. Nichols and Todd got things started with back-to-back one-out singles and Lowe then doubled to straight-away center to plate Nichols for the first run of the inning. Foster then made it 3-0 with her second RBI of the game as she singled through the left side of the infield to bring in Todd. The big hit of the inning came two batters later as B. Reid lined a two-run double down the leftfield line to plate Lowe and Foster and make it 5-0.
-South had a chance for another big inning in the fourth loading the bases with two outs, but Kierra Camp was able to get a chopper back to the circle to end the inning.
-Georgia Southern put a runner on in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but Brown didn't allow the Eagles to get anything going. One key moment in the game came with a runner on in the sixth. Farrell led the frame off with a single to left. Macy Coleman then looked as if she were going to beat out an infield hit, but Savanna Mayo fielded the ball and made a nice throw to just barely get Coleman. On the play, pinch runner Hannah Scarborough was thrown out at third trying to advance as Jag catcher Lyric Cabral hustled down to third and made the tag to complete the double play.
-South Alabama extended its lead in the seventh as Todd and Lowe both reached on infield singles to start the top of the frame. They were sacrifice around by Foster and Krzywiecki then delivered a two-run double to center. B. Reid followed it up with a RBI-single to right center to make it 8-0.
-Brown recorded her fourth 1-2-3 inning of the contest in the seventh to clinch the win.
NOTES
-The squeeze bunt for Foster in the third was her second of the season. She now has three on the season and 15 for her career, which moves her into a three-way tie with former Jags Jenny Stevens (2007-08, '11) and Kaitlyn Griffith (2012-15) for ninth on the program's career list.
-The two-RBI game also marked the 22nd multi-RBI game of her career moving her into a tie with Stevens and Tara Donaldson (2007-09) for 10th all-time in the category.
-The four hits by Todd tied a career high for the senior and was her second four-hit game of the season. It also marked the 48th-multi-hit game of her career tying her for fourth all-time with Blair Johnson (2012-15).
-The multi-hit game for Lowe was her 22nd of her career and moved her into a tie with Chloe Rathburn (2014-15) for 18th.
-With the complete-game shutout, Brown moved past former Jag All-American Hannah Campbell's program mark as she now has 29 in her career.
-The three runs driven in by B. Reid were a season high and tied a career best for the sophomore.
-The four doubles by the Jags established a new season best, surpassing the previous season mark of three set against Western Kentucky earlier in the week.
THEY SAID IT
Head coach Becky Clark
- On the game: "I thought our overall effort was better today; that's what it should've looked like yesterday. We need to stay locked into that effort. When we compete like we competed today, we give ourselves a chance against anybody. Hopefully they see the difference between the two days and the results."
- On the adjustments made from yesterday: "The biggest thing for us today was that we weren't walking a lot of batters especially at the bottom of the order. This game is all about adjustments. We made the adjustments we needed to make in order to keep Georgia Southern off balance. As I said yesterday, Georgia Southern has a new coaching staff and some new players, so it took us a little bit to figure them out, but I feel that we did that and made the adjustments we needed to make. Â
- On the pitching and defense: "I thought Devin was good in the circle and it was one of our better defensive efforts that we've had this year. The double play that we turned in the sixth was huge for us. It was a heads up play for Lyric [Cabral] to get down to third to make the out. Offensively, we were putting pressure on in a lot of areas. We've still got some places where we need to figure some things out, but for the most part, we were pretty good offensively today."
