ANTOINETTE LEWIS NAMED SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Antoinette Lewis has been named the Sun Belt Women's Basketball Player of the Week on December 4. The sophomore forward from Memphis, Tenn., averaged 18.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and three blocks per game in the University of South Alabama women's basketball team two wins last week.

Lewis posted her second double-double of the season against East Tennessee State on Monday night at the Mitchell Center. In the 81-74 Jags win, Lewis shot 10-12 from the floor to finish with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks. It marked the fifth double-double of her young career.

Lewis continued the trend on Thursday night against Tennessee State at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn. In a 22-point Jaguar victory, Lewis finished one rebound shy of another double-double. Finishing the game with 13 points and nine rebounds, Lewis played just 22 minutes.

As of December 4, Lewis is shooting .795 from the floor to lead the NCAA in field-goal percentage. Lewis has started all six of South's games this season and is averaging 13.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and two blocks per game. Through the first six games this season Lewis has been a force inside, and helped lead the Jags to its best start since 1984-1985.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Terry Fowler

On Antoinette Lewis this season: "She's been awesome. She's leading the nation in field-goal percentage. Moving forward, as people start preparing, scouting, we expect to see some double teams and things like that. She has to be ready to move the ball and find the open player. Everything else will take care of itself for her."

Sophomore Antoinette Lewis

On her approach to the game: "Offensively, my team trusts me to score when I get the ball. We focus on playing inside out all the time in practice. I was determined to get rebounds. Coach said if we out-rebound this team, it will better our chances of winning. Defensively, I was trying not to foul. I did, but that's ok. I was just trying to be aggressive because the more aggressive team would win."

On the team's chemistry: "It's so much fun. We come to practice and we challenge each other. For game days, we have fun. We play, and that's what it's all about for us."
