Opening Kick
• The Jaguars begin the second half of the season with their first home game in nearly a month when Alabama State visits Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
• Although this is the first meeting between the two programs, the Hornets are the second of five different schools from the Southwestern Athletic Conference on South's schedule from 2017-21; the Jags defeated Alabama A&M 45-0 last fall, and will play host to Jackson State (2019), Grambling ('20) and Alcorn State ('21) the next three years.
• USA is 2-0 all-time against league members, having also beaten Mississippi Valley State 35-3 during the 2011 campaign.
• The Jaguars are 11-2 against NCAA Football Championship Subdivision opponents since the program's inception in 2009.
• It's the second straight year that ASU assistant coach Travis Pearson — who was on the South staff from 2013-15 — will be on the opposing sideline after he served as defensive coordinator at Alabama A&M the last two seasons.
Notes On Campbell's Coaching/Playing Career
• Campbell's 160-58 mark as a head coach includes going 33-15 over the last four years at Central Arkansas, where he guided the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances.
• He has led two programs to national championships — Delta (Miss.) State in 2000 at the NCAA Division II level and Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. to the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association crown.
• In 19 seasons no team coached by Campbell has finished below .500.
• Campbell has coached on the staffs of Pat Dye (Auburn graduate assistant, 1988-89) and Jackie Sherrill (Mississippi State assistant, 2003).
• Campbell and Jaguar coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Greg Stewart were teammates on Troy's 1987 NCAA Division II national championship squad.
Patterson On Point
After making two fields goals in the Jaguars' first five contests this fall, Gavin Patterson connected on both of his tries in the second quarter last time out to account for South's scoring in the opening half. Â It's the 10th time in his career that the senior has converted multiple field goals, as he now needs just five points to move into second place on the Jaguars' all-time scoring list (see career records on page 6).
Baker Has Big Numbers
WR Kawaan Baker has now led the team in receiving yards in back-to-back outings after recording 79 on three catches, while it was the second game in a row that the sophomore has posted a season-high total after ending the day with 124 all-purpose yards. Â The sophomore has caught at least two balls in each of the last seven outings dating back to the 2017 finale at New Mexico State, while he averaged 72.33 receiving yards per contest during the Jags' three-game road stretch that wrapped up the first half of the season.
On The Run
Tra Minter paced the Jags in the GS game with 38 yards rushing on a career-high-tying 16 carries, the fourth outing in a row he has led the team on the ground; it's the longest such streak by a South running back since Xavier Johnson turned the trick in the final seven outings of the 2016 campaign. Â In addition to averaging 44.5 yards per contest on the ground the last four weeks, Minter matched a season high with three receptions against the Eagles while his 30-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter moved him into the top five on the school's season record list as he now has 459 midway through the year.
Busy Buggs
Senior Malcolm Buggs was credited with a game-high-tying eight stops at Georgia Southern, marking the first time in 38 career appearances that he has led the Jaguars in the category. Â Not only was it a career-best tackle total for Buggs, he added his first pass defensed of the season.
More From Moore
Against the Eagles, Deonta Moore posted season highs in yards rushing (33), receptions (four, leading all players), yards receiving (30) and all-purpose yards (63), with the last three career-best figures as well. Â The rushing total matched his output from the previous three games combined, while in the prior two contests Moore had three catches for three yards.
Barging In
After making five stops the two previous weeks combined, senior LB Bull Barge matched Buggs for game-high honors after posting eight at Georgia Southern. Â It's the second time this fall that Barge has shared the team lead in stops, and the sixth time he has accomplished the feat since the start of the 2017 campaign.
Solid Season Debut
Senior WR Malik Stanley made his season debut in the matchup with the Eagles, finishing with three catches for 48 yards.  It was the fifth time in his last six appearances — a stretch that dates back to South's trip to Georgia State on Oct. 26 last fall — that Stanley has posted three or more receptions, and the fourth occasion during that span that he has recorded 45 or more yards.
Quick Contribution On The Corner
It took just over a year for CB Gus Nave to return from injury, but since making his way back on the field the redshirt freshman has wasted little time in making an impact.  One week after recording his first interception of the season at Appalachian State, Nave equaled a career high with three stops — all unassisted — in the matchup with the Eagles.
All On Board
In addition to Barge, the other three Jag linebackers to see action at Georgia Southern all found a way to contribute as well. Â Redshirt freshman Nick Mobley leads all newcomers on the South defense with 29 stops after making three against the Eagles, while classmate A.J. DeShazor matched that total last time out to give him 19 tackles in the last four contests. Â And, Khalil McDonald contributed two stops including one of the unit's two behind the line of scrimmage, his first solo tackle for loss since a win over Troy Oct. 11 last year.
