MONTREAL, Canada – Behind three double-digit scorers, the University of South Alabama women's basketball team picked up a 73-47 victory over Bishops to close out its Canada trip Monday.
 

"Tonight (Monday) was a great team victory," head coach Terry Fowler said. "We played the game with joy and unity."

Senior Chyna Ellis scored a team-high 14 points and brought down four rebounds, while juniors Genesis Perrymond and Erin Autio also finished the night in double figures.  Along with her 12 points, Perrymond also added two assists and two rebounds, while Autio contributed 10 points and three boards.

Freshman Antoinette Lewis helped South out rebound Bishops 47-34 grabbing a team-high eight boards in addition to her eight points off the bench in the victory.

The Jags took an 18-10 lead after the first quarter, but Bishops keep it close in the second outscoring South by one.

However, USA dominated the second half holding Bishops to just 12 points over the final two periods of action en route to the 26-point win.

"We really played great defense in the third quarter," Fowler commented. "Offensively we had a good balance."

South went 31-of-71 (43.7 percent) from the field for its best shooting performance during the three-game trip.

"As we finish our journey, I believe we were able to accomplish a lot of things on and off the floor," Fowler said. "I'm proud of our student-athletes in how they represented themselves, their families, our program, our athletic department and the University of South Alabama.
