THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
South Alabama is playing ranked teams in back-to-back games for the first time since 2002, when the Jaguars faced No. 15 Auburn (L 0-4) and No. 12 Tennessee (L 1-2 ot). Both of those games were on the road.

USA's 11-game losing streak to Auburn is its longest active streak against any opponent.

Auburn defeated South Alabama 1-0 in double overtime last season in Mobile, and outshot the Jags 22-17. The second game in the NCAA Tournament, a 4-0 AU victory, was much more one-sided, with the Tigers holding an 18-1 edge in shots.

Only one of Auburn's five goals vs. South Alabama last year were scored by a returning player.

The Jags' 1-0 win over No. 1 Florida State last season was the program's first over a ranked opponent, and ended an eight-game losing streak to the Seminoles.

The previous three meetings — all in the NCAA Tournament — were won by Florida State by a combined score of 15-0.

USA goalkeeper Justice Stanford set a career high in saves last year vs. FSU with eight.

Nine of the Seminoles who started in last season's game in Mobile are returning.

The Jaguars drew with LSU 3-3 in its exhibition opener, falling behind 2-0 early before scoring three unanswered goals, then lost 1-0 to Ole Miss on a late goal last Friday.

Danielle Henley played a role in all three goals vs. LSU, scoring one goal and setting up two others.

MOODIE QUOTES ON THE WEEKEND
On the official start of the season Friday: "We've talked about Aug. 18 for the longest time. For me, it's exciting as a coach to be at the level that I coach and also coach against. The game against LSU, we looked really confident. If we're fully fit, I think we win that game. Against Ole Miss, if we're fully fit, I think we can win that game. The message to our girls will be clear: we're going to leave it all out on the field. It's going to be a lot of hard work and there will have to be a lot of discipline off the ball because good teams like that can punish you. You just need possible in this game. The longer we can stay in these games, the more difficult it will be for them to score. If we show up and play, we have players that are capable of playing with some of the top players in the country."

On preparing for Auburn: "We talk often with the girls about making the program better, and we haven't beaten Auburn. That's something that could make the program better. Regardless of them losing players, they're still going to be a good team. We respect everyone; it doesn't matter who we play. They're going to have a lot of talent and they're going to be a well-coached and organized team. For us, it's important that we match that and we allow our style of play to shine when we get the chance. Maybe this is our time."

On Florida State: "What we're hearing about them is that this could be one of their better teams. We're a team that regularly goes to the national tournament, so are we alright with just going to the national tournament or are we trying to do something in the national tournament? I've coached teams where we went into the national tournament unranked and beat three top-10 teams. For them, they have to show up. They're a great team, there's no doubt about it, but we've got a great team too. If we don't show up, we lose 1-0 to Ole Miss. When we show up, we're able to come back from 2-0 down. Their big challenge now is to show up and play. But in the back of their mind, there will always be that doubt that we can steal a goal — they know that. The result from last year will be fuel for the fire. This is another exciting game to be a part of and coach. We hope that's the same for the players. When they get that belief, then it's anybody's game."
