GCAA All-American Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – University of South Alabama men's golfer Jason Mendel was tabbed a Golf Coaches Association of America Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The rising senior from Norcross, Ga., was one of 260 NCAA Division I student-athletes recognized this year.  In order to be eligible for selection as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, individuals must be a junior or senior academically and have competed at least three full years at the collegiate level.  In addition to posting a season scoring average below 76.0 while participating in a minimum of 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, individuals must also maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher, be of high moral character, and be in good standing at their college or university

Last year Mendel paced the Jaguars with 11 rounds at or below par while posting a career-best 74.26 stroke average.  He shared the team lead with five top-20 finishes — highlighted by a tie for seventh place in a field of 84 individuals at the General Hackler Championship — while having his score count toward the group total in 25 of 27 rounds.  Mendel was among the top 20 individually at both of South's home events, the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational and Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, and after winning twice to help the Jags claim the Southern Collegiate Match Play he was USA's top finisher at the Sun Belt Conference Championship after tying for 13th place.

An economics and finance major, Mendel is carrying a GPA above a 3.6 heading into his final season of eligibility.

It's the ninth year in a row that at least one Jaguar has been selected a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the GCAA.
