“INSIDE JAGNATION” — SOUTH ALABAMA ATHLETICS PODCAST — EPISODE 33

MOBILE, Ala. – With the start of the spring season on Friday, first-year soccer head coach Richard Moodie sat down with "Inside JagNation" for this week's edition of the official podcast of the University of South Alabama Department of Athletics.

Moodie was hired in December after leading both the men's and women's programs at Carson-Newman, guiding the former to a 59-44-9 overall record in six seasons and the latter to a 48-38-7 mark in the last five years.  Not only did he take the Eagles to the 2013 NCAA Division II men's national championship game, he guided the women's program to a 36-7-1 record, back-to-back South Atlantic Conference regular-season and tournament titles and consecutive berths in the NCAA Tournament in 2015 and '16.

He lettered for four years at C-N, and during his final three seasons helped the Eagles go 49-10-6 — which included a 19-1-1 league record — while winning the conference regular-season championship and making the NCAA Tournament each of those years.  As a senior, the native of Stenhousemuir, Scotland, received first-team all-region and all-conference recognition.  Moodie earned both his undergraduate (business management) and graduate (education) degrees from Carson-Newman, serving as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons before becoming the head boys' and girls' soccer coach at Morristown East (Tenn.) High School.

In this week's edition of the podcast, Moodie explains why he was willing to leave his alma mater to take on the responsibility of leading South's program, as well as the differences both between coaching in high school and college and guiding programs at different NCAA levels.  He also discusses his start in the sport, how he chose to attend Carson-Newman when coming to the United States to play collegiately and what it was like coaching the program he played for.  Other topics in the episode include the easiest and most difficult aspects of making the transition to USA and Moodie's goals for the Jaguars both this spring and long term.
