THEY SAID IT
USA head coach Terry Fowler
Opening statement: "I really was pleased with the flow we played with on the offensive end, we wanted to get into the high 90s and we were able to do that tonight; we wanted to push the ball and play with this type of pace.  They came into the game averaging 30 three-point attempts and we held them to 17, which was an emphasis for us because we didn't want them to get good looks from three. The fact that we got a lot of people in the game was good, being able to get them out there under the lights."

On the team's first game against an outside opponent: "Some teams play scrimmages instead of an exhibition game, but I don't want our first game to be the lights, the uniforms, the music, the band, the crowd.  It's always good to get out in this type of atmosphere.  I thought we had a good crowd tonight.  This is valuable, as we move on this will really help us."

On putting together a strong performance from the start: "We had talked the past couple of days about, if we go out and go 0-for-5 in our first five possessions just move on to the next play, don't let that defeat us and pull us down.  I think we did miss our first two or three [shots], but we just kept going on.  It was good to see us not hang our heads and move on to the next play, that's something we've been working on since we started Oct. 1."

On the play of the team's younger student-athletes: "We knew Antoinette was going to have an opportunity to be a special young lady here, she's proven it so far.  She just has to continue to get better every day, she gives us more depth in the post area.  I think Savannah Jones' first three or four shots back on the floor she overshot it, the adrenaline was going, and then she settled down.  She gives us another dimension as well.  And late in the game we got a chance Casey Ferguson and Alexis Sykes and what they can do on the offensive end as well."

Sophomore guard Shaforia Kines
On what she did well tonight: "My shots were falling and I was pushing the fall down the floor.  I was just looking for my teammates and trying to get them open looks."

On playing against outside competition for the first time this year: "It was real important.  It just felt good passing the ball, I love feeding my teammates."

On how good the team can be this year: "We can be really good if we just continue to push hard, work hard every day and build off of this win."

Freshman forward/center Antoinette Lewis
On what she did well in the game: "The fact that I continued to work hard and to post, and once I lost position I didn't give up, I kept re-posting.  That's something that we stressed.  I was being aggressive and I was attacking, so I was listening to my coaches."

On getting a win in the team's exhibition game: "I feel that it gives us a boost of confidence to know that on any given night we can have anybody go out there, show up and play lights out."
