MOBILE, Ala. – After going 3-0 in singles action at the Florida State Invitational last weekend — helping the Jaguar men's tennis program to a fourth-place finish at the event — Juan Cruz Soria is this week's guest on "Inside JagNation," the official podcast of Jaguar Athletics.
A senior who transferred to South after three years at Texas Rio Grande Valley, Soria's performance included claiming a pair of three-set victories on the opening day of the event; the second came against the Seminoles' Guy Iradukunda, ranked 59th in the country coming into the tournament, to help the Jags even the score 3-3 against FSU in the semifinals. In the fall, he posted a 7-3 singles mark that was highlighted by a win in pre-qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships.
Prior to coming to Mobile, the San Juan, Argentina, native was a two-time first-team all-Western Athletic Conference selection in singles and the league's Player of the Year in 2015, and he also shared the school's male athlete-of-the-year honors that spring. In three seasons with the Vaqueros, Soria was 46-36 in singles while adding 38 doubles victories.
