MARZOL GOES UNDEFEATED FOR MEN’S TENNIS

MOBILE, Ala. – Freshman Clement Marzol (Toulouse, France) went 3-0 across singles and doubles for the University of South Alabama men's tennis team Friday at the Southern Miss Invitational.

In singles, Marzol defeated the University of Alabama-Birmingham's Anru Fourie 6-3, 6-0 and Chao-Yu Huang of Southern Miss 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Marzol and junior Oliver Gingras (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) bested University of New Orleans' Federico Boscarino and Federico Staksrud 7-6 in doubles.

"Clement was the only one undefeated today, winning both his singles and doubles matches," said USA assistant coach Juan Troglia. "He is only a freshman but played like a senior today, playing a solid game from the base line."

In other doubles action, senior Pierre Noyon (Oye-Plage, France) and sophomore Lucas Gonzalez (Chateauroux, France) dropped Nicolas Kramer and Giacomo Adoncecchi of UNO 6-2.

Noyon pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) victory against Wen-Po Tseng of USM in singles, and UAB's Kenton Parton defeated Noyon 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

"Pierre played solid in both matches," Troglia said. "In the afternoon, he played a player with similar game plan so it was a matter of who was better mentally at the important moments."

In other singles action, UAB's Eric Komati dropped Gingras 6-4 ,6-4 and Jorman Reyes won 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) over Gingras.

"Oliver, in the morning, had a tough opponent from UAB," said Troglia. "He was a little inconsistent at the important moments, and that cost him the match. In the afternoon he made some adjustments in his game and played better."

Finally, Gonzalez fell to UAB's Christian Coetzee 6-3, 6-3 and Teeradon Tortakul of Southern Miss 6-4, 6-4.

"Lucas also had a tough opponent this morning against UAB," Troglia said. "He wasn't able to follow the game plan through the entire match, but in the afternoon he played better mentally."

The Jaguars continue play Saturday at 9 a.m.
