INDIANAPOLIS – University of South Alabama freshman
Alexandria Stiteler will participate in the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships, the organization announced Wednesday.
The Sun Belt Conference's lone representative, Stiteler received one of 15 automatic berths for the tournament held May 25-30 in Tulsa, Okla.
Not only is Stiteler the first Jaguar freshman to earn a place in the singles championships, she's just the fifth overall, and first since
Adrianna Solarova in 2007.
The Sun Belt Freshman and Student-Athlete of the Year, Stiteler has a 28-6 overall record, and an 18-4 mark in dual matches. The Bradenton, Fla. native is 17-4 at the No. 1 flight and won 16 consecutive matches earlier in the spring. She received the league's athlete of the week honor a school-record four times this season.
Stiteler is 4-1 against nationally-ranked opponents and is currently ranked No. 93 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
A complete, 64-person bracket will be released at a later date.
