MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball begins a five-game home stand to finish the 2016 regular season on Saturday when it hosts Kennesaw State for a doubleheader beginning at noon.

Saturday is National Military Brats Day, and all active and retired military will receive free admission to Jaguar Field with proper identification.
USA (27-16) recently defeated Mississippi State on the road on Tuesday to snap a five-game losing streak, dropping the Bulldogs, 2-1, at Nusz Park. South Alabama faces Kennesaw State for the second time in program history, with the first encounter ending in a 7-3 victory for the Jaguars in the club's first season in 2007.
South Alabama is 13-6 at home, having won six straight and 10 of the last 11 at Jaguar Field. The Owls are 7-15 on the road this season.
Emily Messer leads USA at the plate with a .430 batting average, 64 hits, 39 runs scored, a .557 slugging percentage and a .485 on-base percentage. Kaleigh Todd ranks second on the club, offensively, with a .403 batting average, 56 hits and 34 runs. Stephanie Pilkington has driven in a team-high 28 runs, while Amanda Minahan has recorded a club-best four home runs.
Devin Brown improved to 16-10 with her win over Mississippi State and boasts a team-low 1.61 ERA and team-high 266 strikeouts, a new program season record. Destin Vicknair is 11-5 in the circle with a 2.49 ERA and 78 strikeouts against 25 walks in 98 1/3 innings pitched.
Kennesaw State (25-23) enters the week on a four-game losing streak after falling to Georgia Tech, 4-0, in a midweek clash and being swept by Atlantic Sun foe USC-Upstate last weekend. The Owls rank seventh in the nation in stolen bases per game, swiping 2.46 per outing.
Taylor Denton leads the Owls at the plate with a .308 batting average, 44 hits and 25 runs scored. Courtney Sutter and Megan Verniga share the team lead in RBI with 27 apiece. Denton and Kara Chambers have stolen 28 and 24 bases, respectively.
Logan Viers is 11-7 in the circle with a team-low 1.73 ERA and 97 strikeouts against 21 walks in 129 1/3 innings. Morgan Sikes is 11.6 with a 1.98 ERA and only 29 earned runs allowed in 102 2/3 innings of work. Sikes also has four saves on the year.
