JAG SOFTBALL TRAVELS TO TEXAS STATE THIS WEEKEND

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball heads to San Marcos this weekend with hopes of clinching a sixth Sun Belt Conference series versus Texas State.

A Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. precedes Sunday's finale, set for an 11 a.m. start. Links to live stats can be found by accessing the Jaguar softball schedule page. In-game twitter updates are provided for each USA contest via the program's official handle, @USAJagsSoftball.

USA (26-13, 14-3 SBC) clinched its fifth-straight league series last weekend by sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday at Georgia Southern. The Jaguars run-ruled the Eagles in both games to stretch it league winning streak to a program' record 14 games, before falling in the finale, 5-3.

The Jaguars dropped a nail biter at No. 4 Alabama on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa, with a pair of Crimson Tide runs coming across via South Alabama error and closer Alex Osorio striking out seven of USA's finale nine batters.

South Alabama is currently in second place in the league behind Louisiana-Lafayette, while Texas State (27-17, 6-9) is seventh.

USA is batting .334 in conference play, with sophomore second baseman Kaleigh Todd leading the way with a .491 average. The Bessemer, Ala., native has 26 hits and 20 runs in league competition with a .585 on-base percentage. Senior third baseman Emily Messer tied the school's on-base streak last Wednesday, reaching for the 26th-straight game.

Sophomore right-hander Devin Brown leads a Jaguar pitching staff that boasts a 2.10 ERA. Brown is 15-8 with a team-low 1.58 ERA and team-high 245 strikeouts. Junior righty Destin Vicknair is 11-4 with a 2.43 ERA and only nine earned runs allowed in 38 1/3 innings pitched in league play.

Texas State is batting .242 collectively, led by Taylor Webb's .306. Kelli Baker has recorded a team-high 42 hits and 26 runs scored. Corrina Liscano has driven in a club-best 26 runs and is slugging .469. Randi Rupp is 19-9 in the circle with 236 strikeouts and a 1.74 ERA.

South Alabama is 1-2 versus the Bobcats all-time. Texas State took games two and three off the Jags in San Marcos in 2014. Last season's series between the clubs was canceled due to weather.
