JAG SOFTBALL HOSTS GEORGIA STATE FOR THREE-GAME LEAGUE SET

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball welcomes Georgia State to Jaguar Field this weekend for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series on Saturday and Sunday.

USA (18-11, 6-2 SBC) has swept its last two SBC series, taking three games apiece versus Louisiana-Monroe and Appalachian State, after beginning the league stretch with a pair of losses in a doubleheader at No.5 Louisiana-Lafayette.
 
South Alabama has won eight of its last nine games, the lone blemish being an eight-inning, 2-1 loss to McNeese State this past Wednesday in Mobile. The Jags are 7-6 at home this season.
 
Georgia State (19-15, 4-2 SBC) has clinched its only two league series two games to one against Troy and Texas State. The Panthers recently split a doubleheader in Greenville, S.C., at Furman. GSU is 4-4 this season on the road.
 
USA is batting .297 as a team with a collective slugging percentage of .387 and on-base percentage of .385. The Jags have outscored opponents, 141-81 this year and outhit them, 235-149.
 
Emily Messer leads USA at the plate with a .490 batting average, 50 hits, 27 runs scored, a .637 slugging percentage and a .539 on-base percentage. She and Kaleigh Todd have reached safely in USA's last 16 contests. Todd carries an 11-game hitting streak into the weekend.
 
Devin Brown is 10-7 in the circle with a team-low .160 ERA. The Mobile, Ala., has struck out 184 batters in 113 2/3 innings this year is holding batters to a .156 average. Destin Vicknair is 8-3 with a 2.93 ERA and only 18 walks allowed in 69 1/3 innings of work.
 
GSU is batting .271 this year with an overall slugging percentage of .368 and .354 on-base percentage. The Panthers have outscored their opponents, 161-156, and have outhit them, 251-238.
 
2015 SBC Freshman of the Year Ivie Drake leads GSU at the plate with a .381 batting average, 37 hits, 32 runs scored, eight home runs, a .711 slugging percentage and a.535 on-base percentage. Kensey Caldwell has driven in a team-high 25 runs and has supplied five homers.
 
Katie Worley is 8-4 in the circle with a team-low 2.72 ERA and team-high 66 strikeouts. Annie Davis is 4-5 with a 3.16 ERA.
 
USA is 7-1 versus Georgia State all-time, 2-1 in Mobile.
