MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men's tennis team won all four singles matches in straight sets Saturday at the Southern Miss Invitational.
Against the University of New Orleans, freshman
Clement Marzol (Toulouse, France) dropped
Federico Staksrud 6-3, 6-4 and sophomore
Lucas Gonzalez (Chateauroux, France) bested
Federico Boscarino 6-2, 6-4. Junior
Oliver Gingras (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) defeated
Giacomo Adoncecchi 6-3, 6-4 and senior
Pierre Noyon (Oye-Plage, France topped
Nicolas Kramer 6-3, 6-3.
"The guys were able to focus in the afternoon and took care of business, winning all singles matches," said USA head coach
Nick Brochu. "It was great to see Clement go undefeated this weekend. He's worked hard since the last tournament, and it paid off this weekend."
In doubles, the Jags faced off against the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Gingras and Marzol fell to
Eric Komati and
Christian Coetzee 6-2, and
Kenton Parton and
Anru Fourie defeated Noyon and Gonzalez 6-3.
"Today in doubles, we were not explosive enough to compete against teams like UAB and USM," Brochu said. "We need to really practice doubles to be able to play against good teams."
The Jaguars return to action Oct. 7 to compete in the UL Lafayette Invitational.
